A Little About Me As I was born into a military family, and raised a Navy brat, I have lived and been exposed to many places: • Born in the Philippines • Toddler in California • Raised in Japan (11 years!) • 3 elementary schools • 3 high schools • Graduated HS in Oak Harbor • Graduated with my Geography Information Systems degree at UW • Graduated with M.iT at CityU Held several tech and teaching positions: • Initially worked with my GIS degree doing digital mapping and demographic data representation. • Held freelance Web programming and design positions • Piloted a Computing workshop series at UW teaching Web programming • Did a year at Americorps • 4th grade for 2 years at Federal Way • 2nd/3rd/K-8 Tech for 5 years at St. Paul

  3. 7th Grade Religion In 7th grade, the philosophy of St. Catherine School continues to emphasize that learning is value-based and we are dedicated to life-long growth in faith, love and learning. Learning is designed to promote the spiritual, intellectual, social, physical and emotional growth of each unique child. Middle School students at St. Catholic School are model citizens for the entire school and accept many leadership roles Curriculum • Warm Beach October 3-4th Unit 1: Who is God? • The Source of All Life, The Truth Revealed, The Blessed Trinity, God, Our Loving Father, Jesus Christ, the Good News, Holy Spirit, Helper and Guide Unit 2: Who is Jesus? • The Promise of Salvation, Jesus, the Promised Messiah, The Coming of God’s Kingdom, Jesus the Healer, Jesus, the Bread of Life, Jesus Christ the Savior Unit 3: How is Jesus Christ Alive in the Church Today? • The 7 Sacraments, Baptism, Confirmation, Eucharist, Penance, Anointing of the Sick, Holy Orders/Matrimony Unit 4: How Does the Church Live As the Body of Christ? • We Live Out Our Vocation, We Gather as Christ’s Disciples, We Perform the Works of Mercy, We Work for Justice and Peace, We Are a Communion of Saints, We Rejoice in God’s Kingdom

  4. 7th Grade Math – Previous Grade Standards • Fluently add and subtract within 20; Fluently multiply and divide within 100 • Count, read and write, compare, round whole numbers and decimals • Fluently multiply and divide multi-digit numbers using the standard algorithm • Fluently add, subtract, multiply, and divide multi-digit decimals using the standard algorithm • Concept of ratio and unit rate; Concept of Integers and rational numbers • Read, write and evaluate expressions with exponents; Solve one-variable equations and inequalities • Measure, estimate and convert length, volume, mass, time etc in standard units • Geometry: area, perimeter, angles, lines, symmetry, coordinate graphing, surface area and volume • Statistical variability; summarize and describe distributions of data

  5. 7th Grade Math Current Standards Critical Areas of the Common Core for 7th Grade Instructional time will focus on four critical areas: 1) Developing understanding of and applying proportional relationships 2) Developing understanding of operations with rational numbers and working with expressions and linear equations 3) Solving problems involving scale drawings and informal geometric constructions, and working with two- and three-dimensional shapes to solve problems involving area, surface area, and volume 4) Drawing inferences about populations based on samples

Common Core Standards for Mathematical Practices • MP1 - Making sense of problems and persevere in solving them • MP2 - Reason abstractly and quantitatively • MP3 - Construct viable arguments and critique the reasoning of others • MP4 - Model with Mathematics • MP5 - Use appropriate tools strategically • MP6 - Attend to precision • MP7 - Look for and make use of structure • MP8 - Look for and express regularity in repeated reasoning

  9. Standards-Based Grading • 4 = Exceeds grade level expectations • 3 = Meets grade level expectations • 2 = Needs to strengthen grade level expectations • 1 = Needs additional help and/or resources to meet grade level expectations

  11. Attendance and Late Work Late Work Policy Assignments are expected to be turned in on the assigned due date. If an assignment is not turned on time the grade will be affected for every day it is late. All late work is excepted. The late work policy is consistent throughout the middle school. Absences and Tardies It is the student’s responsibility to check with the teacher for make-up work. This includes being absent for an excused event, illness, or any unforeseen event. Students will have one day to make up the work for each day absent. If a student misses a quiz or test the student will have two days to make up the quiz or test. If the student chooses not to make up the work on time, he/she will not receive points for the work.

  12. Homework • Please check the St. Catherine website daily for homework. • Homework is posted daily at 2:50 with the students on the Homework Grid Web page. • Students are expected to write all homework in their planners daily. • Students may email at anytime. I normally check my emails starting around 6:30 am until 7:00pm, as well as weekends. • I am happy to print needed materials for students at school if there is a printer issue at home.
