ASET: Who we are and what we do • ASET was established to advance the prevalence, effectiveness and quality of work based and placement learning in Higher Education and by promoting and publishing research into that system of education Aims • Provide strategic leadership and a national voice as a central agency; • Championthe concept of work based and placement learning; • Advise on best practice, providing training and staff development opportunities to dissemination good practice across the sector; • Offer informed and authoritative representation, advice and support to all professionals working in the field; • Provide a forumfor groups and individuals to discuss and formulate policies; • Prepare, develop and publish information and research relating to work based and placement learning.

  3. ASET: Who we represent • 105 HEI, colleges and organisations • Predominantly UK based • Over 1200 individuals

  4. Publications • E-Bulletins – monthly to the inbox of 1200 HEI professionals working to support students on work based and placement learning • Viewpoints – research informed policy snapshots • Proceedings and papers – conference presentations, workshops and research • Good Practice Guides

The Practice and Research Group • Predominantly virtual group of interested colleagues • Meet twice a year; March in Birmingham and September at conference Co-chairs: Debbie Scott, University of Chester Lisa Ward, University of Huddersfield • Supportive community, sharing of ideas and projects • Peer review of the research stream of annual conference • Peer review of the ASET Research Bursary proposals • Open to anyone working at an ASET member institution

There are known knowns; there are things we know we know.We also know there are known unknowns; that is to say, we know there are some things we do not know.But there are also unknown unknowns – the ones we don’t know we don’t know. Thinking about impact of placements in your context • What are your known knowns? • What are your known unknowns? • What do you think the unknown unknowns might be?

  10. What will you do as a result of today? Whatever you decide to do, make sure that it is GOOD • Go back and share your thoughts on todaywith colleagues and students • Open up some opportunities for gettingfeedback on your ideas • Operationalize some of your ideas, whether it is a small change in practice or an innovation – make it happen • Don’t forget to evaluate your impact and think about what the added value is
