  1. Who Is God?Lesson One: A Personal Being Who Created the Universe

  2. Job 11:7-8 (NKJV) 7 "Can you search out the deep things of God? Can you find out the limits of the Almighty? 8 They are higher than heaven — what can you do? Deeper than Sheol — what can you know?

  3. Who is God?

  4. Hebrews 11:6 (NKJV) But without faith it is impossible to please Him, for he who comes to God must believe that He is, and that He is a rewarder of those who diligently seek Him.

  5. Let us seek to know who God is because we truly want to know Him as a Person with whom we can have a wonderful and meaningful relationship!

  6. God is a Personal Being Who Has Existed from All Eternity. • God is not an impersonal force or ball of energy. • God is an actual person with a name!

  7. Exodus 3:15 (ASV) And God said moreover unto Moses, Thus shalt thou say unto the children of Israel, Jehovah (the Lord), the God of your fathers, the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob, hath sent me unto you: this is my name forever, and this is my memorial unto all generations.

  8. God is a Personal Being Who Has Existed from All Eternity. • God is not an impersonal force or a great ball of energy. • God is an actual person with a name! • God is an eternal being who has always been and will be in existence.

  9. Exodus 3:14-15 (ASV) 14 And God said unto Moses, I AM THAT I AM: and he said, Thus shalt thou say unto the children of Israel, I AM hath sent me unto you.15 And God said moreover unto Moses, Thus shalt thou say unto the children of Israel, Jehovah, the God of your fathers, the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob, hath sent me unto you…

  10. “I AM WHO I AM” a self-existent being; God has no dependence upon any other. He is everlasting, self-sufficient; He lives forever!

  11. Isaiah 40:28-29 (NKJV) 28 Have you not known? Have you not heard? The everlasting God, the Lord , The Creator of the ends of the earth, neither faints nor is weary. His understanding is unsearchable. 29 He gives power to the weak, And to those who haveno might He increases strength.

  12. Jeremiah 10:8, 10 (NKJV) 8 But they are altogether dull-hearted and foolish; A wooden idol is a worthless doctrine… 10 But the Lord isthe true God; He is the living God and the everlasting King. At His wrath the earth will tremble, and the nations will not be able to endure His indignation.

  13. God is a Personal Being Who Has Existed from All Eternity. • God is not an impersonal force or a great ball of energy. • God is an actual person with a name! • God is an eternal being who has always been and will be in existence. • Only the Eternal God could have created the universe.

  14. “The Law of Cause and Effect.” • God is eternal. He has always been in existence. He is not an effect of any cause (Rev. 1:8). • In contrast, the universe is caused and not eternal. • Only God, who is eternal, is an adequate cause for the world.

  15. Psalms 102:25-27 (NASB) 25 "Of old Thou didst found the earth; And the heavens are the work of Thy hands. 26 "Even they will perish, but Thou dost endure; And all of them will wear out like a garment; Like clothing Thou wilt change them, and they will be changed. 27 "But Thou art the same, And Thy years will not come to an end.

  16. God, Three Persons in One, Created the Universe and Us. • The Godhead: A powerful team working as One God! • God is God because of His Divine nature, such a nature that is comprised of three persons, i.e. the “Godhead”

  17. Acts 17:29 (ASV) Being then the offspring of God, we ought not to think that the Godhead is like unto gold, or silver, or stone, graven by art and device of man.

  18. There is only one God (Deut. 6:4), yet there is a “unified oneness” about Him. God is one, yet composed of three persons: The Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit.

  19. All three persons are referred to as God because each one is God by nature(John 6:27; Col. 2:9; Acts 5:3-4).

  20. God would not be God to exclude any one of the three persons that make up the divine nature.

  21. The three Persons are united as one to comprisethe One true God, undivided and indivisible (Jn 8:24, 58; 10:37-38; Lk 4:1).

  22. The Godhead worked together as a team in the Creation and as a team to provide our salvation.

  23. Genesis 1:1-2 (NKJV) 1 In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth. 2 The earth was without form, and void; and darkness was on the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God was hovering over the face of the waters.

  24. Genesis 1:26 (NKJV) Then God said, "Let Us make man in Our image, according to Our likeness; let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, over the birds of the air, and over the cattle, over all* the earth and over every creeping thing that creeps on the earth."

  25. Colossians 1:6 (NKJV) For by Him all things were created that are in heaven and that are on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or principalities or powers. All things were created through Him and for Him.

  26. Titus 3:4-6 (NASB) 4 But when the kindness of God our Savior and His love for mankind appeared, 5 He saved us, not on the basis of deeds which we have done in righteousness, but according to His mercy, by the washing of regeneration and renewing by the Holy Spirit, 6 whom He poured out upon us richly through Jesus Christ our Savior.

  27. God, Three Persons in One, Created the Universe and Us. • The Godhead: A powerful team working as One God! • The all wise God designed and created everything.

  28. Only God who possesses a great and infinite intelligence could create the universe, the world, and every living organism.

  29. Psalms 19:1 (NKJV) The heavens declare the glory of God; And the firmament shows His handiwork.

  30. Romans 1:20 (NKJV) For since the creation of the world His invisible attributesare clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, evenHis eternal power and Godhead, so that they are without excuse.

  31. Only an all wise God could be the intelligent designer of all living things and this amazing universe we live in!

  32. Romans 11:33-35 (NKJV) 33 Oh, the depth of the riches both of the wisdom and knowledge of God! How unsearchable are His judgments and His ways past finding out! 34 “For who has known the mind of the Lord ? Or who has become His counselor?” 35 'Or who has first given to Him And it shall be repaid to him?”…

  33. Romans 11:36 (NKJV) For of Him and through Him and to Him are all things, to whom be glory forever. Amen.

  34. God, Three Persons in One, Created the Universe and Us. • The Godhead: A powerful team working as One God! • The all wise God designed and created everything. • The all powerful God created everything.

  35. “The Law of Cause and Effect” states that every material effect must have an adequate cause that existed before the effect. How did this universe come into existence?

  36. Only the all powerful, eternal God could be that great first cause of the universe to have brought it into existence.

  37. Jeremiah 32:17 (NASB) Ah Lord God ! Behold, Thou hast made the heavens and the earth by Thy great power and by Thine outstretched arm! Nothing is too difficult for Thee.

  38. Psalms 33:6-8 (NASB) 6 By the word of the Lord the heavens were made, and by the breath of His mouth all their host. 7 He gathers the waters of the sea together as a heap; He lays up the deeps in storehouses. 8 Let all the earth fear the Lord ; Let all the inhabitants of the world stand in awe of Him…

  39. Psalms 33:9 (NASB) For He spoke, and it was done; He commanded, and it stood fast.

  40. Revelation 4:11 (NASB) "Worthy art Thou, our Lord and our God, to receive glory and honor and power; for Thou didst create all things, and because of Thy will they existed, and were created."

  41. The Creator is a Person Who Wants a Relationship with Us! • From the beginning, God has desired a relationship with the people He created.

  42. Acts 17:24 (NASB) "The God who made the world and all things in it, since He is Lord of heaven and earth, does not dwell in temples made with hands…

  43. Acts 17:25 (NASB) … neither is He served by human hands, as though He needed anything, since He Himself gives to all life and breath and all things…

  44. Acts 17:26 (NASB) … and He made from one, every nation of mankind to live on all the face of the earth, having determined their appointed times, and the boundaries of their habitation…

  45. Acts 17:27 (NASB) 27 that they should seek God, if perhaps they might grope for Him and find Him, though He is not far from each one of us. 28 for in Him we live and move and exist, as even some of your own poets have said, 'For we also are His offspring.'

  46. Sadly, Adam and Eve (and all people after them) chose to sin (Gen. 3; Rom. 5:12) creating a wall of separation from God (Isaiah 59:2).

  47. We are made in God’s image (Gen. 1:27); we are incomplete without Him. We are lost and without hope without God in this world (Eph. 2:12).

  48. The Creator is a Person Who Wants a Relationship with Us! • From the beginning, God has desired a relationship with the people He created. • Our relationship with God is restored through His Son who died for our sins!

  49. Romans 5:10 (NASB) For if while we were enemies, we were reconciled to God through the death of His Son, much more, having been reconciled, we shall be saved by His life…

  50. Romans 5:11 (NASB) And not only this, but we also exult in God through our Lord Jesus Christ, through whom we have now received the reconciliation.
