  1. OPENING SEQUENCE IDEAS

  2. 1. Genre - Thriller

  3. Synopsis of story… • State of equilibrium - A seemingly average woman lives in a flat in London. She lives a normal life. • Disruption of that order - We discover that she has a victim held hostage in her home. • Recognition that the disorder has occurred - She meets the father of the girl she has kidnapped and realises that the case is serious and widely followed. • An attempt to repair the damage - She tries to make peace with the girl and says she will let her go if she doesn’t tell anyone where she has been. They become close friends as they realise they are similar. • A restoration of a new equilibrium - The girl escapes and the woman is arrested.

  4. Outline of opening sequence… • Montage of morning routine - extreme close up shots of washing face, getting dressed, makeup routine, and then leaving the house. • Extreme close up of her putting leather gloves on.

  5. Following the woman walking to a cafe to get breakfast and then walking home. • Focus on normal scenes to create the sense that it is an average day. • She orders two breakfasts to go which tells us that there is another character that she is meeting - builds up tension • Non diegetic neutral jazz music playing, becomes diegetic as the woman puts in her headphones.

  6. A tracking shot follows her through the front door, down the stairs and into the dining room/kitchen. • She sits down, opens her laptop and joins an online work meeting - we can only hear the sound coming from the laptop and the woman’s voice which is jolly and lively.

  7. Jump shot to her garden - a girl is banging on the glass doors, screaming - the screaming and banging is really loud but can’t be heard from inside. We move back and forth between the shot of the woman sitting at her computer and the girl banging on the doors - juxtaposition between the two sounds. • From inside we can faintly hear the banging and screaming - the woman shifts her camera slightly showing her discomfort - she interrupts the meeting and says “sorry I just have to feed my cat quickly” - she then turns off her camera and mic. • She opens the doors and hands the girl her breakfast. • The woman then says “Good morning sweetheart” and kissing the girl on the forehead - the girl pulls away looking uncomfortable.

  8. 2. Genre - Action

  9. SYNOPSIS OF STORY… • The story follows the leader of a multimillion pound organisation that illegally poaches and sells organs.

  10. Outline of opening sequence… • Two scenes that we see back and forth • One scene is a negotiation/business deal - businesswoman in the city, well dressed, eloquent, expensive car - you can faintly hear her and she sounds like she is talking about her client and how much they will pay • The other scene is sort of chase in a run down city/slums - a man is captured after a long chase.

  11. We keep cutting in between the two scenes to show that they are happening at the same time. After we see the last shot of the man being captured we go back to the woman who is running through a hospital. • The last scene is her bursting through the doors where we see a little girl lying on a hospital bed, her family around her - the scene ends with the woman saying, “Mrs Johnson, we found you a donor.”

  12. 3. Genre - Horror

  13. Synopsis of story… • A young girl Emily, befriends a another young girl, Tara online and they become close through video chat. Tara’s camera is broken so her screen is always black. After a while Tara admits to stalking Emily and starts showing Emily being filmed by camera in her room.

  14. Outline of opening sequence… • Tara and Emily are having a video call - we can see the laptop and tara sitting on her bed - normal conversation - nothing weird. • We hear Tara say her camera is broken and so she can’t be seen on the screen. • Close ups of parts of Emily’s room - only Emily’s room is shown! • Emily’s dad comes in and she lowers her laptop screen. He asks who she is talking to and she says its an internet friend. He seems concerned to which she replies, ‘It’s fine Dad she’s not a weirdo, we know each other really well.’ • Emily’s dad leaves the room and we pan back to Emily on her bed. • She puts the laptop on her lap and as she lifts up she screen she starts to apologise to Tara for the interruption. • Now the screen shows a view of Emily from the corner of her room. We realise this is what Tara’s camera is showing. • The sequence ends with Tara saying, ‘You’re right Emily.’
