  1. Matthew 13:44-46 44 “The Kingdom of Heaven is like a treasure that a man discovered hidden in a field. In his excitement, he hid it again and sold everything he owned to get enough money to buy the field. 45 “Again, the Kingdom of Heaven is like a merchant on the lookout for choice pearls.46 When he discovered a pearl of great value, he sold everything he owned and bought it!

  2. The World

  3. Matthew 6:33 33 Seek the Kingdom of God[e] above all else, and live righteously, and he will give you everything you need.

  4. Matthew 6:19-21 19 “Don’t store up treasures here on earth, where moths eat them and rust destroys them, and where thieves break in and steal. 20 Store your treasures in heaven, where moths and rust cannot destroy, and thieves do not break in and steal. 21 Wherever your treasure is, there the desires of your heart will also be.

  5. Our Deceitful Heart

  6. Jeremiah17:9 9 “The human heart is the most deceitful of all things, and desperately wicked.    Who really knows how bad it is?

  7. Romans 3:18 9 Well then, should we conclude that we Jews are better than others? No, not at all, for we have already shown that all people, whether Jews or Gentiles, are under the power of sin. 10 As the Scriptures say, “No one is righteous—not even one.11 No one is truly wise;no one is seeking God.12 All have turned away;all have become useless. No one does good, not a single one.”[d]

  8. 13 “Their talk is foul, like the stench from an open grave.    Their tongues are filled with lies.”“Snake venom drips from their lips.”14     “Their mouths are full of cursing and bitterness.”15 “They rush to commit murder.16     Destruction and misery always follow them.17 They don’t know where to find peace.”18     “They have no fear of God at all.”

  9. Proverbs 3:7 7 Don’t be impressed with your own wisdom.    Instead, fear the Lord and turn away from evil

  10. Proverbs 3:5-6 5 Trust in the Lord with all your heart;    do not depend on your own understanding.6 Seek his will in all you do,    and he will show you which path to take.

  11. Our Selfishness

  12. Mark 12:31 31 The second is equally important: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’ No other commandment is greater than these.”

  13. John 3:30 30 He must become greater and greater, and I must become less and less.

  14. Matthew 26:39 39 “My Father! If it is possible, let this cup of suffering be taken away from me. Yet I want your will to be done, not mine.”
