  2. Introduction • Born: In the State of Virginia April28,1758 • Died: July4,1831 Age 73 • Election: The year 1816 • Political Party: Democratic Republic • Facts: He was not the only President who died on July 4th

Early Life Slide: Family & Education • 1 Sister, Brothers, Ma & Pa names were Elizabeth Jane Monroe & Spence Monroe • At age 11 he began attending school. • James Monroe was well Educated, he went to the college of William and Mary in Virginia. • Fast Fact: Later his children were educated after his wife died.

  4. Family Life Slide: • James Monroe was Married to Elizabeth Kortright. • He had children but, no pets their names (The children's of course) were John Spence, Eliza, And Maria. • His son, John Spence died very young, and Eliza and Maria were both well educated.

  5. The Election: • James Monroe chose Daniel D. Tompkins, ran against Rufus King. • Monroe had 183 electoral votes, King had 34.(Monroe has won the battle).

  6. Significant Events In Presidency: • His wife died the year before him and his son died young.(wife died in 1830 age 72). • These issues were important because they were members of his family.
