Upcoming BWH Internal Selection Deadlines • Information on the 2015 Dermatology Foundation Grant Awards is available http://dermatology foundation.org/rap/ • DF limits the number of applications it accepts from any one academic institution, we will once againhave an external review process to determine which applications will be supported for submission to the DF.    • **DATE CHANGE** The internal review process deadline will be Friday July 25that 5:00 p.m. (with no exceptions).  **DATE CHANGE** • - 2 Page draft research proposal (longer proposals will be rejected) • - CV • You must contact Karen Coughlan ASAP if you intend to apply!

Upcoming BWH Internal Selection DeadlinesAmerican Skin Association Awards • Anticipated deadline is Oct. 1. 2014 details not yet posted, but the 2013 categories are available for reference. http://www.americanskin.org/research/seekers.php • The internal deadline for preliminary information will be Friday, August 1. Decisions of who will move forward will be available approximately one week later. • name, target category, and a maximum two page description of the project and aims •  All applications materials should be sent to Samantha Simpson at sksimpson@partners.org.

LUPUS RESEARCH INSTITUTENEW RESEARCH GRANTS FOR NOVEL APPROACHES TO LUPUS Novel Research Grants provide early stage support for exceptionally creative and innovative approaches to major challenges in lupus research. Successful proposals will advance novel hypotheses and/or technologies that have the potential to stimulate new research direction and propel the field forward. Applications will be judged principally on novelty of the hypotheses, scientific quality, strength of approach, relevance to lupus, likelihood of success,and potential impact for those living with lupus. Rationale for the hypotheses proposed rather than amount of preliminary data will be emphasized. Continuations of long-term research projects are not appropriate for this submission. Terms of the Award: The total amount of the Novel Research Grant is up to $100,000 per year for up to three years. Funds may be used for any appropriate research costs. The grant will pay PI salary up to 10% or $10,000 each year which includes fringe. The award cannot be used for graduate student tuition and/or stipend. Responsible Conduct of Research (RCR Cambridge Area) August 18, 20, & 22, 2014 This nine-hour course fulfills NSF & NIH requirements for formal RCR instruction for those desiring to deepen their knowledge of ethical research and responsible conduct. BIOSTATISTICS OFFICE HOURS BWH Center for Clinical Investigation Biostatistics Core and the Harvard Catalyst Biostatistical Consulting Program are providing Biostatisticians weekly consultation and guidance. No reservation is required, and it is free. Biostatisticians will answer your statistical questions, guide you to more in-depth support, and will be available for both short- and long-term  collaborations. Please come to One Brigham Circle, follow the signs for the Center for Clinical Investigation Conference Room 3-014B on the 3rd floor (past the lunch room, right through the double doors).   16. PILOT and DRIVE grants The Boston Biomedical Innovation Center (B-BIC) is now accepting applications for PILOT and DRIVE grants supporting research and development of innovative devices, diagnostics, and therapeutics related to heart, lung, blood, and sleep. PILOT grants provide up to $50,000 for direct costs for 1 year and DRIVE grants provide up to $200,000 for milestone achievements over 1½ to 2 years. All faculty from B-BIC member institutions are encouraged to apply, and applicants are requested to contact their institutional site miner before submitting an application. PILOT grants provide up to $50,000 to support direct costs for proof-of-concept studies PILOT grants support collaborative research projects in the early stages of pre-commercialization for completion of tasks that help demonstrate proof of concept, e.g., reproducibility experiments, testing of key elements, or early prototype development. This is an open call. Pre-proposals may be submitted at any time. DRIVE grants provide up to $200,000 to support direct costs for proof-of-value and validation studies DRIVE grants provide investments in early-stage technologies for completion of activities that help demonstrate proof of value, e.g., system level testing or complete prototype development. In addition to financial support, DRIVE projects receive active mentoring from a team of experts with significant entrepreneurial, product development, technology, and business development expertise along with project management support.  This is an open call. Pre-proposals may be submitted at any time.   18. BRI/ORC Micro Grant • The Biomedical Research Institute (BRI) and the Center for Faculty Development & Diversity's Office for Research Careers (ORC) offer micro grants for scientific projects (basic, translational or clinical), training/career advancement, and special circumstances • Amount of Award: Funds are awarded based on merit as up to $1000 (typical awards $500 - $1000). Applications are evaluated by BRI & ORC staff on a rolling basis with input from the BRI Executive Committee (EC) as needed. • Eligibility: • Post-docs, residents, clinical fellows and junior faculty (ranking assistant professor or below) who are BWH employees may apply. • Individuals may only be the recipient of one micro grant in this pilot phase. • Applicants must apply in advance of the event requiring support and may not receive support for events that have already occurred http://www.brighamandwomens.org/research/microgrants/default.aspx
