  1. “FASHIONED IN CHRIST BY THE GOD OF ALL GRACE” WE HAVE BEEN FITLY JOINED TOGETHER IN CHRIST JESUS BY GRACE ARE YE SAVED

  2. BY GRACE ARE YE SAVED For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: Not of works, lest any man should boast. For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus unto good works, which God hath before ordained that we should walk in them. (v.8-10) And hath raised us up together, and made us sit together in heavenly places in Christ Jesus: That in the ages to come he might shew the exceeding riches of his grace in his kindness toward us through Christ Jesus. (v 6-7)

  3. HIS WORKMANSHIP “FASHIONED TOGETHER IN CHRIST JESUS BY THE GOD OF ALL GRACE” Two completely diverse cultures THE JEW: Background- From the Law of Moses THE GENTILE: (The Ephesians/ US) “aliens from the commonwealth of Israel, strangers from the covenants of promise…no hope, without God” “Raised up to…“GRACE AND TRUTH in Christ Jesus”(John 1:17)

  4. BOTH now joined in Christ Jesus Raised up into a very blessed position Saved by Grace…. having reconciled both unto God in one body by the cross, having slain the enmity thereby….(Eph 2:16) to make in himself of twain one new man, so making peace (2:15) For through him we both have access by one Spirit unto the Father.(2:18)

  5. OURBLESSINGS IN CHRIST JESUS Like the Ephesians, we are Gentiles (formally aliens) Do we fully appreciate our blessings in Jesus?

  6. CONSIDER WHAT WE HAVE GAINED IN CHRIST JESUS We are no longer subject to certain final death We have the hope of the resurrecton and salvation We have received the forgiveness of sin We have a mediator for sin after baptism We are heirs to the promises (Gal 3:26-29) We should really APPRECIATE all of these blessings of grace and truth

  7. BLESSINGS (as described in Ephesians 2) • “QUICKENED” (made alive v.1, 5) • We have received God’s love and mercy (v.4) • We have received God’s Grace ( v.5) • We have been raised up into heavenly places (v.6) • We are His workmanship (v.10,22) • We have been created unto good works (v.10) • We have been made nigh (v.13) • We are now one new man (v. 14-15) • We have peace with God (v.14-15) • We have hope (v.15) • We are reconciled, enmity removed (v.16) • We have access to the Father (v.18) • We are fellow citizens with the saints (v.19)

  8. WE ARE SAVED BY GRACE? WE HAVE GRACE NOW! AND We have HOPE OF THE RESURRECTION..(the riches of his grace in the ages to come…..v. 7) For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God:(Eph 2:8) We are saved by “grace and truth by Jesus Christ” (John1:17) GRACE MERCY AND LOVE ARE ALL LINKED TOGETHER IN THIS ACCOUNT(v.4-5) In this session: THE TRUTH ABOUT GRACE!

  9. MERCY- Not getting what we deserve GRACE- getting something we don’t deserve LOVE- God’s kindness in extending mercy and grace in accordance with His will THERE IS MUCH MISUNDERSTANDING ABOUT ALL OF THESE SUBJECTS Some say: “Let us sin that grace may abound! “(Rom 6:1) For others: “AMAZING GRACE” For us: WE KNOW BETTER!

  10. D0 WE KNOW BETTER? One of the pitfalls IN THIS SUBJECT is coming to conclusions on Eph. 2:8-10 without the entire CONTEXT! CONTEXT & INTERPRETATION BIAS (problems in all communications) Example: OUR THEME FOR THIS SESSION “For by Grace are ye Saved” The verse actually reads:For by grace are ye saved THROUGH FAITH; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: WITHOUT FAITH THERE IS NO GRACE ! (Heb 11:6)*

  11. Through faith? Nevertheless when the Son of man cometh, shall he find faith on the earth? (Luke 18:1-8) Remember: So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.(Rom 10:17) Are we building faith? (reading, studying the word?) (Matt 4:4,Job 23:12) Daily readings/ Bible classes, schools? Are we crying day and night???

  12. GRACE ONLY AVAILABLE THROUGH ABRAHAM’S SEED The mystery -That the Gentiles should be fellowheirs, and of the same body, and partakers of his promise in Christ by the gospel: (Eph 3:6 ) Mystery hinted at in the promises to Abraham …promises that are very relevant to the subject of GRACE. (Gal 3:8)

  13. THE BLESSING OF GRACE THROUGH ABRAHAM’S SEED! Ye are the children of the prophets, and of the covenant which God made with our fathers, saying unto Abraham, And in thy seed shall all the kindreds of the earth be blessed. Unto you first God, having raised up his Son Jesus, sent him to bless you, in turning away every one of you from his iniquities. (Act 3:25-26) The forgiveness of sin in Christ, the seed of Abraham, was the KEY component of the promises. ALL DEPENDENT ON FAITH!! THE BLESSING IS GRACE (The FORGIVENESS OF SIN)

  14. ABRAHAMBELIEVED! SOME OF THE CONFUSION STARTED WITH THE ACCOUNT OF ABRAHAM And he brought him forth abroad, and said, Look now toward heaven, and tell the stars, if thou be able to number them: and he said unto him, So shall thy seed be. And he believed in the LORD; and he counted it to him for righteousness. (Gen 15:5 -6) For what saith the scripture? Abraham believed God, and it was counted unto him for righteousness. (Rom 4:3) Blessedis the man to whom the Lord will not impute sin!

  15. THEREFORE IT WAS IMPUTED MORE TO THE STORY: He believed &: • He Feared God: (Gen 22:12) • He obeyed God (Gen 22:18) • Because Abraham obeyed my voice, kept my charge, my commandments, statutes and law (Gen 26:3-5) • He waited 25 years…and still his faith was strong..he was fully persuaded ….and therefore it was imputed to him for righteousness (Rom 4:22) • He perfected his faith through action (James 2) • Foreknowledge of God (Gen 18:19; Eph 1:4-5, Rom 4:17)

  16. FOREKNOWLEDGE? Foreknowledge of God (Abraham, Gen 18:19,Rom 4:17) US? Chosen before the foundation, predestinated (Eph 1:4-5) the riches of his glory on the vessels of mercy, which he had afore prepared unto glory, (Rom 9:23) Moreover whom he did predestinate, them he also called (Rom 8:28-30) (potter/clay)vessels of mercy, which he had afore prepared unto glory,(Rom 9)

  17. STRONG IN FAITH And being not weak in faith….He staggered not at the promise of God through unbelief; but was strong in faith, giving glory to God….being fully persuadedthat, what he had promised, he was able also to perform. (Rom 4:19-24) And therefore it was imputed to him for righteousness.Now it was not written for his sake alone…. But for us also, to whom it shall be imputed, if we believe on him that raised up Jesus our Lord from the dead;

  18. WITHOUT REALFAITH IT IS IMPOSSIBLE: To please God (Heb 11:6) To be justified, constituted righteous (Rom 4) To be saved by grace (Eph 2:8-10) To become heirs to the promise To receive the riches of His grace in the ages to come For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus unto good works, which God hath before ordained that we should walk in them. SO….What about WORKS?

  19. WHAT ABOUT WORKS? EARNING SALVATION? Doing our readings…attending Bible class? Not of works, lest any man should boast.(Eph 2:9) Many will say to me in that day, Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in thy name? and in thy name have cast out devils? and in thy name done many wonderful works? And then will I profess unto them, I never knew you: depart from me, ye that work iniquity.(Mat 7:22-23) HOWEVER..SAVING FAITH INVOLVES WORK!

  20. Saved through activefaith By faith Abraham, when he was called to go out into a place which he should after receive for an inheritance, obeyed; and he went out, not knowing whither he went. (Heb 11:8) By faith Abraham, when he was tried, offered up Isaac: and he that had received the promises offered up his only begotten son, Of whom it was said, That in Isaac shall thy seed be called: Accounting that God was able to raise him up, even from the dead; from whence also he received him in a figure. (Heb 11:17-19) HEBREWS 11: THEY ALL OBTAINED A GOOD REPORT THROUGH FAITH! (v.39)

  21. ABRAHAM’S FAITH PERFECTED Was not Abraham our father justified by works, when he had offered Isaac his son upon the altar? Seest thou how faith wrought with his works, and by works was faith made perfect? And the scripture was fulfilled which saith, Abraham believed God, and it was imputed unto him for righteousness: and he was called the Friend of God. (James 2:21-23)

  22. ABRAHAM’SFAITH PERFECTED THROUGH WORK Abraham’s offering of Isaac a work Baptism, our first work through faith (typical offering) For ye are all the children of God by faith in Christ Jesus. For as many of you as have been baptized into Christ have put on Christ. There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither bond nor free, there is neither male nor female: for ye are all one in Christ Jesus. Andif ye be Christ's, thenare ye Abraham's seed, and heirs according to the promise.(Grace)

  23. Work will be used to measureyour faith Jer 17: 10 I the LORD search the heart, I try the reins, even to give every man according to his ways, and according to the fruit of his doings. Matt 16:27 For the Son of man shall come in the glory of his Father with his angels; and then he shall reward every man according to his works. 2 Cor 5: 10 For we must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ, that each one may receive what is due him for the things done while in the body, whether good or bad. Rev 20: 12 :And, behold, I come quickly; and my reward is with me, to give every man according as his work shall be.

  24. BALANCE FAITH AND WORK For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus unto good works, which God hath before ordained that we should walk in them. For the grace of God that bringeth salvationhath appeared to all men, Teaching us that, denying ungodliness and worldly lusts, we should live soberly, righteously, and godly, in this present world…..Who gave himself for us, that he might redeem us from all iniquity, and purify unto himself a peculiar people, zealous of good works. (Titus 2:11-14) (1 Pet 2:9-10)

  25. GRACE FAITH & WORK BY GRACEARE YE SAVED THROUGH FAITH FAITH MUST BE REAL….STRONG FAITH IS PERFECTED (MADE SAVING FAITH) THROUGH ACTION FAITH AND THEN THE INITIAL ACTION –BAPTISM GRACE ISTHE BLESSING (FORGIVENESS OF SINS/RECONCILIATION) AT BAPTISM INTO CHRIST WE MUST ADD TO OUR FAITH…PERFECTING IT BY ACTION THROUGHOUT OUR PROBATION TO CONTINUE IN GRACE WE SHOULD NEVER TURN GRACE INTO LASCIVIOUSNESS (Jude 1:4)

  26. Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord… (Eph 6:10-17) TO HIM THAT OVERCOMETH…. (instructions to the ecclesia at Ephesus…..and all of the seven ecclesias He that has an ear let him hear! HE THAT OVERCOMES WILL RECEIVE THE RICHES OF HIS GRACE IN THE AGES TO COME & WILL BECOME AN HABITATION OF GOD(our next session)

  27. QUESTIONS What is the KEY ingredient in salvation by grace? What blessing promised to Abraham most benefits us? What factors contribute to a SAVING faith? What should we add to our faith? How can we earn salvation? What are the benefits of grace at baptism What are the benefits of grace at the judgment seat? What is it that we are encouraged to overcome?
