  4. EOS Data and Operations System (EDOS) Planned Latency Enhancements • Remove Reed-Solomon decoding bits prior to WAN transfer • Benefit: Decrease WAN transfer file size by about 12%, therefore decreasing WAN transfer time. Also saves storage space on NAS at stations and LZPF. (Aqua/Terra savings ~2 min; Aura savings ~1 min) • Provide lossless data compression before WAN transfer and decompress at LZPF upon receipt (includes de-randomization of Terra data) • Benefit: Decrease WAN transfer file size by about 30%, therefore decreasing WAN transfer time (Aqua/Terra savings ~6 min; Aura savings ~2 min) • Move Terra Ebox-R from GSFC LZPF to White Sands, perform Level Zero Processing (service processing and product distribution) on site • Benefit: Eliminate WAN transfer time to LZPF, saving ~10 minutes for Terra RBD product deliveries.

  5. EOS Data and Operations System (EDOS) Latency Enhancements Schedule • Remove Reed-Solomon decoding bits prior to WAN transfer • Development and Test Complete: December 31, 2010 • Deployment: January, 2011 • Provide lossless data compression before WAN transfer and decompress at LZPF upon receipt (includes de-randomization of Terra data) • Development and Test Complete: December 31, 2010 • Deployment: January, 2011 • Move Terra Ebox-R from GSFC LZPF to White Sands, perform Level Zero Processing (service processing and product distribution) on site • Development and Test Complete: April 30, 2011 • Deployment: May, 2011
