  3. Why states provide periodic feedback? Supports continuous improvement and on-going planning Sets up schools for success and improvement Demonstrates the STATE provides support to schools by reviewing plans Provides opportunity to determine how schools meet state requirements

  4. Uses of a feedback form Internal State Department Communications Evidence for state waivers Feedback to schools and opportunities for coaching for success

  5. Frequent Questions about State Feedback Forms Are all feedback forms the same? Who develops the form? Can a state have more than 1 form? How often are the forms reviewed? Who reviews the forms? Are there different formats? Who sees the submitted forms?

  8. SD DOE Priority and Focus Schools Statewide System of Recognition, Accountability and Support System (SSRAS)

  9. SSRAS Data Review Teams Composed of members of SD DOE staff and SST (coaches) members Work as a team to review documents submitted by Priority and Focus Schools Provide specific feedback to Priority and Focus Schools using the SD LEAP system Each team (3-4 members) reviewed 5-6 schools

  10. Teams review…. Goals and Objectives Form School Turnaround Plan in SD LEAP Survey of Effective Practices Form Information related to Title I funds if applicable

  11. State Feedback Forms • 3 reporting periods • 3 data review sessions October/January/May • 2 days each time • Adapted form each time to address different aspects & ensure proper focus

  12. Teams look for … Alignment between evidence and reasons for identification Clear, comprehensive evidence

  13. DOE Staff • Some DOE staff have admin logins (about 10) • At least one per group to be LEAD to log in to access form • Reviewed system prior to Data Analysis day • Locate form • Navigate helpful documents • Reviewed Feedback Form

School Support Team Members Participate as objective member of data review team(not assigned to own school) Work with School Leadership teams to review the state feedback forms and facilitates team in responding to feedback Discuss theresults of data review process and collaborate to identify strategies and solutions SD DOE provides PD/support as needed on 2nd day of Data Review

Lessons Learned • Work with your Comprehensive Center • Could not have done this without the support from Heather Hoak at McREL • Test the forms, and test them again • Be prepared with backups • Created a blank form in Word format…just in case • Create leads in each group and familiarize them with system • Be willing to adapt the form as needed • Coordinator of system should be available for arising issues/questions • My group consisted of two strong SSTs that could take over group
