  2. Purpose • To provide correct information about your body • To understand the changes your body goes through as it grows • To help you feel comfortable about asking questions of your doctor or parents

  3. Ground Rules To create a safe environment: • No put downs • Be sensitive to others • Right to privacy/confidentiality • Use correct terminology • Do not divulge private information • There are no dumb questions • Talk to your parents for more information

  4. Family Life Topics • Puberty • Reproductive Anatomy • Sexually Transmitted Diseases (STDs) • HIV Prevention • Abuse • Refusal Skills • Sexual Harassment • Health Promotion

  5. Anonymous Questions • Our society is diverse, and people have different values and beliefs about sexuality. • It is important to respect the beliefs of others just as you want others to respect your beliefs. • I do not want you to do or say anything that makes you feel uncomfortable. • At the end of each lesson, you may write down your anonymous questions, and place them in the box.

  6. Class Activity: Mixed Messages • We are confronted with a variety of contradicting and confusing messages about sex. • Think about the messages you receive and make your own decisions about beliefs and behavior. • Read the directions on the Mixed Messages worksheet, and complete.

  7. Class Activity: Mixed Messages • What is it like to receive so many different messages about sex? • Which sources have the biggest influence on you? • Which sources are the most helpful? • What messages about sex would you share with your friends?

  8. Summary • This program will provide new information about growing up • Many of your questions will be answered in class. • Talk to family members or other trusted adults for additional information, and discuss the values and beliefs you have in your home.
