  2. Kauffman Campuses Initiative: Foundation of campus-wide entrepreneurship at Florida International University

  3. The Global Entrepreneurship Center (GEC) was started in 2003 with an award of a Kauffman Collegiate Entrepreneurship Network (KCEN) Grant for $50,000. The Center designed from beginning as a cross-campus activity by the College of Business Administration and the College of Engineering. Later the Colleges of Arts & Sciences and Education join. The Beginning

  4. 125+ campuses in the 2003 KCEN Candidate chosen from KCEN schools. Research oriented universities only. Mixture of public and private universities. Majority and minority oriented institutions. Campuses from around the country. Looking for “out of the box” proposals. KCEN & Campuses Grants

  5. Grants of up to $3-5million each. 30 Campuses invited in May to submit. 15 received $50,000 Planning Grants in July. Final Proposals sent to Kauffman in October. Presented to Kauffman in November. 8 chosen in December for gifts. The Kauffman Campuses Initiative

September 2003 Retreat with 120+ local business, community, & university leaders: Developed overall strategy for the Center Outlined projects and objectives for Institutes & Academy Strong focus on cross-disciplinary activities Marketing-branding strategy for the center and institutes developed Build campus-wide network to support proposal Meet three to one match required Planning Grant Outcomes

Institute for Community Innovation (ICI) applies for $1million grant for training Non-profit entrepreneurship in community organizations Hosting the National Foundation for Teaching Entrepreneurship (NFTE) regional and Latin American operations Expanding $1million USAID project for rural entrepreneurs Community Innovation Since the Gift
