  2. 1. Official Meeting • December 2001: 1. meeting of a number of equine dental practitioners: discussion of present situation of dental care for horses in germany. • idea: how to improve the situation?

  3. Foundation in January 2002 • Purpose: • The IGFP should give horses in germany a better future in their dental care.

  4. The name: IGFP • International Association for the improvement of the function of the equine teeth.

  5. Statute Veterinarian and non-veterinarian dental practitioners should work together for the improvement and developement of knowledge in Equine Dentistry and the practical implementation in their daily work.

  6. Members • 161 members by january 2009 • 29% certified and 71% non-certified • 58% veterinarians, 42% non-vet

  8. Conferences • Every february a 2-days conference with national and international speakers. • Since 2009 german-english and english-german simultaneous translation

  13. Certifications • performed 2-3x/year • point system similar to IAED • not anonymous • every member, that wants to advertise on the website needs to be certified. • former times: 1 year rule • Still a problem: standard of occlusal rehabilitation, therefore: examiners workshops

Workshops • Since 2006 we organised 7 workshops with Tony Basile(USA), 1 with Dr. Richard Miller(USA), 5 with Dale Wearing(Australia), 1 with Mark Slingsby(GB) and many with Tekla Gergely(HU) and Christie Dreessen(NL). • Additionally 2-3x/year members of the IGFP met on non-supervised workshops to discuss their work.

European meeting, Demonstration day • 25.03.2010 Veterinarian and non-veterinarian equine dental practitioners meet and discuss the right of work, qualification, certification and client-veterinarian-dentist-relationship • 26.03.2010 Outstanding professional instructors show their understanding of equine okklusal rehabilitation: Dale Wearing (IAED/Advanced certified, head examiner, Mark Slingsby (IAED/Adv.C, Ex), Christie Dreessen (IAED/C), Dr. Carsten Vogt (Cert.EquD)

  20. further goals • Legalisation of the work of dental practitioners in germany. Workpermit only, when person is certified. • Basic Certification of all active members. • Continuing Education of the members • Set up of an Advanced Certification • Positive relationship to the IAED
