What the workshop is about • Theoretical and practical knowledge on the role of the media in formingculturally diverse society. • Encourage both creativity in dealing with cultural diversity and build awareness of the: • importance of the media in determining our image of current developments due to ethnic,cultural and religious changes. • to reflect upon and actively discuss on the specific role of the media as: observers, reporters and players (in a socio-cultural setting marked by a.m. changes – without thereby ignoring conflicts)

(Relational empathy: the creation of shared meaning during the interpersonal encounter) • „The third culture“as a medium

Media and Cultural Diveristy (Integration) • The central tasks of European societies and politics: to accept the ethnic, cultural and religious changes • Media shows and formsthe immigration society • One-sided reporting: • contribute to a general feeling of uncertainty • does not serve the purpose of enlightenment. • To examine prejudices and differentiate is necessary for peaceful coexistence

Understanding of developments and conflicts in reports • Characteristics of a „good“ report: • stereotypes and generalised assertions are countered through differentiated statements • humour is not at the expense of other groups, but rather results from the own reference group • the realities of the immigrants or minorities, their normal daily life, with all their problems and positive aspects are presented without presenting them as a social problem ...
