  1. NSTX dynamic structural responses to disruptions could be measured by expanding the existing TFJ_FISO system R. Woolley 13 January 2010

  2. Existing FISO system: • Is part of TFJ system • installed after 2003 TF joint failure arc/fire • 27 selectable FISO sensors are patched into 8 channels FISO signal conditioning which drives 8 channels of 2 khz 16 kilosample digitizers • Special software keeps track of patched sensors • Existing sensors all on top or bottom of NSTX 27 channels of FISO sensors & optical caples DIGITIZERS 2 khz/chan 16 ksample/chan SIGNAL CONDITIONING 8 channels PATCH PANEL

  3. 8 channels FISO data are recorded each shot & archived automatically • FISO histories easily retrieved for any shot

  4. Special software exists to track FISO patching:http://nstx.pppl.gov/nstx/Software/WebTools/tf_tools.html    TF Scope Plotting Web Tool (for various "canned" TF Joint Resistance plots)      There is HELP on NSTX Joint Monitoring.

  5. FISO’s displacement sensors

  7. FOD prices (from telecon) • Each sensor (with FL connector) $1315 • Cable options: • Length Price • 2 m $110 • 5 m $125 • 10 m $150 • 25 m $205 No other costs required. 8 channels could be purchased for $12k.

  8. INSTALLATION • FOD sensors would need to be installed on fixed mounts adjacent to VV, in locations chosen to benchmark structural response predictions. • Srinivas Avasarala provided the following plot which could guide selection of installation locations:
