Pathways from Peaksto Plains Consortium: • Initial award for 3 years • 4 year extension following successful review • FVCC And Billings-Cot are lead Consortium agencies. • Missoula COT; Helena COT; Butte COT; SKC BCC; MSU-N; Great falls COT; Miles CC; and Dawson CC. • Service to all secondary schools

Pathways from Peaksto Plains: Consortium Mission: Develop Model Pathways and assist in implementing and sustaining Big Sky Pathways: 2008 • Industrial Technology, Manufacturing and Engineering • Healthcare and Related Services • Business Management 2009 • Agriculture and Natural Resources • Arts and Communications • Social and Human Services

Pathways from Peaksto Plains: • The priorities for year three (2009-2010) will focus on sustaining and expanding pathway activities within all six career fields. • Subsequent program years the priorities of the initiative will shift toward increased student participation, emphasis on inclusion of non-traditional students within each pathway and expansion of apprenticeship and cooperative education opportunities in each career field.

Certificate & Degree programs; licensure; apprentice opportunities. • Incorporate dual credit to the extent possible • Incorporate National standards where possible • Assist institutions in pathway implementation • Develop a web page • Develop a student data base for transcription • Provide professional development

  9. 2007-2008 Status • The Team activities for each of the three development teams (Healthcare, Manufacturing, and Business) varied in nature and look. • Web Page • Development delayed • Student Database Activated • 500+ student records

Status 2007-2008: Healthcare: • Very limited pathway curriculum within secondary system • Stringent post-secondary program structure • Efforts focused on the development of a secondary curriculum to begin a career pathway concept. • Limited opportunities to articulate high school classes to postsecondary program requirements • Focus on student preparation for entering postsecondary programs • Significant number of distant learning and some running start options available to support program pathways. • Professional Development conducted in a summer workshop to develop a model secondary healthcare program. • A final determination of the applicability of these courses will be determined as the model pathways are developed in consideration of prerequisite course requirements. They are well postured to complete the model pathways in an accelerated timeframe from the 08-09 task list.

Status: 2007-2008 Industrial Tech, Manufacturing, & Engineering: • A myriad of post secondary programs with varied program learning and achievement standards. • A significant number of tech prep articulation agreements to specific postsecondary programs but often not transferable between programs or institutions. • Distance learning opportunities is limited due to the performance nature of manufacturing curriculum. • Running start options are available but are very much geographic dependent. • The teams efforts focused on Professional development activities centered on national standards (NCCER in Carpentry, and AWS in welding) to strengthen standards at both the secondary and postsecondary level. • They have the Montana Manufacturing model pathway as a base document and are also postured to complete the model pathway publication in an accelerated timeframe from the 08-09 task list.

Status 2007-2008: Business • A myriad of postsecondary programs. • A large number of tech prep articulation agreements pertinent to business pathways. • Many Distance learning opportunities within each pathway. • Many running start options. • Primary focus of efforts on organizing the career field into viable pathways for development. • Determined common course requirements between pathways. • Developed the career field and pathway representation matrix. • Professional Development activities in Billings and Great Falls • Team development requirements are more extensive than those in manufacturing or healthcare but are achievable within the timeframe listed in the 08-09 task list.

Objectives/Activities for 2008-2009Task List: • Provide a Tech Prep update to the Montana MACTE membership • Establish 08-09 Development team membership (16 Oct 08) • Employing National model pathways as foundation of Big Sky Pathways • Conduct Team Development Activities (15 Oct 08 – 1 July 09) • Develop a State Tech Prep Web Page (on line by 15 Feb) • Model Pathways available for schools to view (Models Online 15 Feb) • Student registration and credit applications incorporated into the web page • Links to Montana Postsecondary programs and standards • Identify, develop and deliver a professional development technical workshop for each career field. (June – July 09) • Conduct the State Career Cluster Workshop in Billings (15-19 June 09) • certify career pathway developers • assist secondary schools in completing their pathway requirements • Breakout workshop by career field
