  1. Foreman Tailgate Talks! Share this information with your Crews! • Special Emphasis: STOP The Mid Year Spike of Incidents! • For the past 6 years we have experienced injury spikes in the Summer! We need everyone on board and engaged in making this year different!   We have experienced 2 Contractor OSHA Recordable injuries in May within the first two weeks of the month. • To insure everyone is getting the Site safety emphasis in a relevant and timely manner we need for you to help communicate to your employees. We are headed into a hot time of the year when we usually experience an elevated unacceptable safety performance.  We call it the MID YEAR SPIKE !  • We need every worker on site to understand this is a time we need everyone to focus on their task at hand! • Please help us influence the workers behavior in a positive manner! Take the time to relay the message about staying focused and stoppingthe MID YEAR SPIKE! • May Performance Concerns: • OSHA Recordable: 5/1/13 ~ Contract employee was exposed to liquid Caustic heals while cleaning/repairing a railcar.  Chemical inadvertently came into contact with eye area while removing PPE. • OSHA Recordable 5/14/13 ~ Contract employee was injured while handling outrigger support on crane and finger tip was pinched resulting in a fracture. • Multiple incidents where workers failed to adequately apply Life Critical Standard requirements. • Serious Near Miss ~ Operator of an aerial lift bumped into worker. • Two serious unacceptable grinder use observations (including the user holding material in his hand while grinding) • Two workers had to be pulled apart and removed from site for fighting, pushing and arguing. • Ask your Crews ... what are you going to do to stop the spike? • Be a Leader and challenge your crews to stay focused and not get injured! • Do you ask workers before they begin work if they are capable of performing the tasks? • Are you available to answer questions and insure your crews understand what they are doing? • Are you helping your At-Risk workers by setting clear expectations of what they are allowed to do and what they are not allowed to do? Are you setting clear expectations of the At Risk mentors who help the At Risk employee succeed? • Are you insuring everyone is focused on the job tasks when they are working? Are you making extra observations? Do you intervene and correct unacceptable behaviors? Do you recognize your workers when they perform safely ? • Do you make sure they have plenty of water available on the job? • Is your work crew willing to stop a job if they feel or know it is unsafe? Are you willing to escalate the concerns to the Facility representatives to get them resolved? If they do not get resolved have you contacted your Leadership to help? Lead By Example! 051513
