Words borrowed from other languages. Many of the everyday words we use in spoken and written English today have been adopted from other countries. Looking up derivations in more advanced dictionaries gives us a clue.

  2. Looking up derivations in more advanced dictionaries gives us a clue e.g. Comb – (Old English camb; related to Old Norse kambr, Old High German camb

  3. Many of our words come from our close neighbours the French Cheque Chef Artist Bureau Café Gallop Nature Restaurant Cabinet Justice and so on
