    9. Performing a Quality Control Test

    10. Consequences of not performing QC Tests If QC is NOT performed, misleading results may lead to inappropriate treatment Always follow your hospital protocol to avoid putting patients at risk Under MHRA (Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency) guidelines it is your responsibility to perform/document QC results The Precision Xceed Pro will prompt when this is due QC solution is stable for 90 days after opening, so when opening a new bottle write the expiry date on the bottle.

    11. Performing Quality Control (QC) Tests Turn the Precision Xceed Pro on via the ‘On/Off’ button & select option ‘2’ (2-Control Test) via the keypad When prompted Scan : Your Operator Barcode The Low Level solution Barcode The Strip Lot Barcode Follow the steps on Screen Before applying solution, gently invert to mix & prevent air locks Repeat the procedure for High Level Solution by : Selecting option ‘1’ (1-Next Level) via the keypad Following the on-screen prompts

    12. Open the strip using the triangular notch in the foil tearing down & across the length of the strip Ensure the 3 electrodes enter the port facing upward A sample can be applied to the top or tip of the test strip Apply a sample with the meter in a horizontal (flat) position to avoid it entering the strip port Fill trigger electrode ensures a sufficient sample is applied The result, or ‘PASS’ or ‘FAIL’, is displayed after 20-second countdown Performing Quality Control (QC) Tests

    13. Performing Quality Control (QC) Tests If results are out-of-range or ‘FAIL’ : Repeat test (option ‘2’) Ensure you follow correct procedure & technique for QC testing If repeated results are in-range or ‘PASS’ you can proceed If either repeated result is out-of-range or ‘FAIL’ follow Hospital Protocol for out-of-range Results If proceeding to a patient test, press the ‘Menu’ key and you will be returned to the main menu

    14. External Quality Assessment (EQA) Where QC is a means of self-checking reliable results are attained, EQA involves the analysis of samples with unknown values from an external source These will be sent out on a regular basis from the laboratory Results are then subject to analysis to compare results across different sites

    15. Performing a Patient Test

    16. Turn the Precision Xceed Pro on via the ‘On/Off’ button & select option ‘1’ (1-Patient Test) via the keypad When prompted Scan/Enter : Your Operator Barcode The Patient ID Barcode/Number The Strip Lot Barcode If you have to enter a patient ID number manually using the keypad you will be asked to enter the number correctly twice before being allowed to proceed to the next step Follow the steps on Screen, ensuring you follow Hospital Protocol for sample collection Performing a Patient Test

    17. Performing a Patient Test Turn the Precision Xceed Pro on via the ‘On/Off’ button & select option ‘1’ (1-Patient Test) via the keypad When prompted Scan/Enter : Your Operator Barcode The Patient ID Barcode/Number The Strip Lot Barcode If you have to enter a patient ID number manually using the keypad you will be asked to enter the number correctly twice before being allowed to proceed to the next step Follow the steps on Screen, ensuring you follow Hospital Protocol for sample collection

    18. Performing a Patient Test Open the strip using the triangular notch in the foil tearing down & across the length of the strip Ensure the 3 electrodes enter the port facing upward A sample can be applied to the top or tip of the test strip

    19. Limitations of Use The strips are not designed for use in serum or plasma samples Use between 15-40° Centigrade and 10-90° relative humidity Clinical testing demonstrates that altitudes of up to 2,195 metres above sea level do not affect results Haematocrit range is 20-70% Do not use during intravenous infusion of high-dose ascorbic acid or during xylose absorption testing Test results may be erroneously low if the patient is Severely dehydrated Severely hypotensive In shock Hyperglycaemic-hyperosmolar state (with or without Ketoacidosis)

    20. Limitations of Use Similar observations have been reported in the literature for other blood glucose monitoring systems. Further details below: Capillary and Neonatal (heel prick) – Severe dehydration, severe hypotension and shock are clinical conditions where the circulation is affected. In these conditions the glucose concentration in capillary blood can be different to that of other blood types. It is recommended that venous or arterial samples are used are not in these situations. All sample types – For patient in a hyperglycaemic-hyperosmolar state, the physiological effects associated with this clinical condition (increased viscosity of sample due to dehydration, reduced pH, and increased haematocrit) are observed with all blood sample types, therefore, these aspects of the limitation refer to all sample types. Patients in a hyperglycaemic-hyperosmolar state (with or without ketoacidosis) – It is recommended that laboratory methods are used for the treatment decisions. For patients with suspected DKA, it is recommended that blood ketone testing is used to screen patients and track their treatment. There are examples in the literature that recommend blood ketone testing for patients with DKA

    21. Critical Ranges Critical Range A result falling out side of the critical range will require more serious intervention. The meter can be set to only show greater than or less than the critical range and not give a specific value. For guidance on out of range results, please follow your Hospital protocol.

    22. Action Ranges Action Range A result falling outside the action range will require some intervention from the operator, such as to repeat the result. A comment code can be scanned/entered into the meter. For guidance on out of range results, please follow your Hospital protocol.

    23. Recalling Patient Results To recall patient results : With the Precision Xceed Pro turned on : Press the ‘Menu’ button Press button ‘1’ (1-Data Review) Enter your Operator ID, either via keypad or scan In Data Review you can choose to view : All Patient Data, to scroll through all stored patient results Patient by Patient ID, to scroll through a particular patient’s results Patient by Operator ID, to scroll through all patient results you have taken

    24. Data Upload ‘Docking the Precision Xceed Pro’ Data Upload : Place the Precision Xceed Pro in the Docking Station every 24 hours, as per Hospital Protocol or when the meter prompts you Data transfer only takes approx 10-20 seconds Store the Precision Xceed Pro in its Workstation when data transfer is complete Several Precision Xceed Pro Meters can use the same Docking Station After 3 ~ 4 mins of non use the Meter will turn off automatically

    25. Health & Safety Always follow Hospital Protocol for Health & Safety !
