  2. 5 minute pitch (notes) • Motivation for project: difficulty of managing chronic pain; need for tools to help people figure out the effects of the many factors that can affect pain/well-being. Book, Paintracking, (2012) with corresponding website that includes PAINTRACKER, a free, on-line tool. Looking for help improving usability of this tool. • Continuation from project with CS523 students fall semester. (Had fun lunches!) They redesigned entire back end. Also laid groundwork for front-end widget. But it’s not yet connected. (Work without glory.) So this team would be doing more of the polishing and testing work. They are available to help orient you all. • Project includes an adviser with decades of experience in industry as project manager, web architect. Mike Doub. Interested and willing to work closely with team to keep it doable and moving forward. • Goal = have new version of PAINTRACKER up and running, by limiting project to something that can be finished within semester time frame. • Opportunities to work on a variety of tools / processes • back end (data base); front end (designing widget); and connecting these; • PhP, JavaScript, MySQL (database technology); CSS (for styling web pages); graphing program; and could use Web Services • Can apply creativity on various levels. If finish early, could start on “app” or other bells/whistles. • Conclusion: Meaningful work. Lots of support from previous students and experienced advisor. Get to have project that you “publish” online.
