  2. Design for the Elderly: Three Smart Living Objects to Encourage Doing Chores N1 Re-arrangingMemory A closet using RFID to discover forgotten clothes and evoke related memory. N2Emotionby Motion A tangible user interface design representing the elderly‘s cooperation on everyday chores in form of master pieces. N3Visible Territory An inertial position system visualizing territory defined by users behaviors of chores.

  3. Design for the Elderly: Three Smart Living Objects to Encourage Doing Chores N1 Re-arrangingMemory A closet using RFID to discover forgotten clothes and evoke related memory. ‧Trick or Treat • A closet slyly exchanges the clothes that are most frequent worn with those that are seldom worn. • ‧LCD Screen • The pictures in which the clothes are shown up will pop upon the LCD screen in order of time. ‧Wrinkle-Proof Memory • A wireless iron sets up temperature automatically by sensing RFID tags on clothes, and accesses the picture related to the clothes.

  4. N1 Re-arrangingMemory Trickor Treat Design for the Elderly: Three Smart Living Objects to Encourage Doing Chores Detachable drawer Glass LCD Trick or Treat! Housing of the wireless iron, Wrinkle-Proof Memory. The “elf” mechanism arm built in the back closet to exchange clothes. Assembly of ironing board from both side of this box.

  5. N1 Re-arrangingMemory Wrinkle-Proof Memory Design for the Elderly: Three Smart Living Objects to Encourage Doing Chores Water tank Steam control Winkle-Proof Memory Wireless Spray nozzle Through ubiquitous computing, the RFID reader of iron read the tag of clothes, and set up appropriate temperature automatically. Power charge Iron RFID reader

  6. Design for the Elderly: Three Smart Living Objects to Encourage Doing Chores N1 Storyboard According to the use frequency, the closet will trace the location of favorite and least worn clothes by detecting RFID tag within them. When pulling out the most-frequently-used drawer as usually, you will be surprised to discover the disfavor clothes. Just pulling out the ironing board, and taking out the wireless iron in the drawer, then you can arrange the clothes full of creases. Through ubiquitous computing, the RFID reader of iron will read the tag of clothes, and set up automatically. The LCD panel will display indistinctly all the information related to clothes and memory. The longer you iron, the more clear the photoes are. It will not only evoke the wonderful things you ever had, but also encourage the elder to get happy with chores.

  7. Design for the Elderly: Three Smart Living Objects to Encourage Doing Chores N2Emotionby Motion A tangible user interface design representing the elderly's cooperation on everyday chores in form of master pieces. • Cutting-off • A solar-energy • cutting board • Dance-with-Shadow • Pepper & salt shakers • Dable • An interaction dining • table

  8. Design for the Elderly: Three Smart Living Objects to Encourage Doing Chores N2 Emotionby Motion Cutting-off A solar-energy cutting board with pressure sensor to measure user’s psychological and physiological statesand represent them in form of Fontana’s cutting-off painting. The color of painting varies with the emotional states whereas the nick illustrates the frequency of motion. The Pressure Sensor (Piezoresistive effects) used to detect the cutting pressure and frequency of user (e.g., Artificial skin developed by NTU)

  9. Design for the Elderly: Three Smart Living Objects to Encourage Doing Chores N2 Emotionby Motion Dance-with-Shadow Spotlight shows the holiday. The product shows the amount of chores by means of different brightness of shadow, and the intimate relationship by means of the intersection of shadows. The darkness of shadow varies with the quantity of chores made by the couples, respectively.

  10. Design for the Elderly: Three Smart Living Objects to Encourage Doing Chores N2Emotionby Motion Dable Dable with tangible user interface (TUI) senses the users’ interaction and presents the relationship status in an aesthetic way. The more interaction, the stronger graphic display.

  11. Design for the Elderly: Three Smart Living Objects to Encourage Doing Chores N2Storyboard 1 2 3 In the early morning, Grandma is busy at cleaning the house, but Grandpa is still watching TV without helping. Grandma is getting angry. At midday, Grandma is preparing the lunch and releasing her anger with “Cutting-off” the cutting board. While Grandpa is going to lunch, he sees the cutting marks in a mess and knows that his wife is in a bad mood, but he doesn’t know why. 4 5 6 Grandpa sees “Dancing-with-shadow” the pepper and salt shakers are separated and the shadows are different sizes. He suddenly understands why Grandma is angry. While eating lunch, Grandpa tries to talk to Grandma, but she doesn’t answer. Grandpa uses his plate on top of “DABLE” to choose a way and expects that doing some chores can make up their relationship. His choice appears around Grandma’s plate, and she is thinking if she should forgive him.

  12. Design for the Elderly: Three Smart Living Objects to Encourage Doing Chores N3Visible Territory A micro inertial positioning system to visualize territory defined by users behaviors of chores. Floor Lamp x Broom GPS x Dog Walker

  13. Design for the Elderly: Three Smart Living Objects to Encourage Doing Chores N3Visible Territory Floor Lamp x Broom We design a broom with micro inertial positioning system which can recognize different users by their stereotype of sweep, and detect how large the space is as well as how long sweep takes place. With wireless transmission, the data is sent to floor lamp and then to an invisible server to be transformed in form of different patterns. The lamp projects the patterns on the wall. These patterns show everyone’s areas and frequency of sweep. What you have done, you know better!

  14. Design for the Elderly: Three Smart Living Objects to Encourage Doing Chores N3Visible Territory GPS x Dog Walker The unique designcan record path, frequency and position of dog walk and project the territory built onto ground. The collar with micro inertial positioning system can recognize dog’s stereotype, for example, to define whether it drain or not. It makes elders expend their territory unlimitedly with their dogs.

  15. Design for the Elderly: Three Smart Living Objects to Encourage Doing Chores N3Storyboard 1 2 3 Grandma is sweeping the floor hard, but grandpa is enjoying watching TV alone without helping. When they turn on the floor lamp, they can see the patterns projected by lamp. They can recognize who sweep areas of house more.Obviously, grandma swept areas more than grandpa. Grandma feels pleased, and grandpa feels ashamed because he does chores less. 4 5 6 To make up doing less chores, so grandpa walks dog automatically. Grandpa conquers their own territory with his dog. When grandpa comes home, he sees the patterns have been changed as grandpa walk the dog a lot, the territory of dog walking expands.
