  3. Today we are going to listen to a song called ‘All Of Me’. What do you think the song is about? Do you think love songs are honest? Do they reflect reality? Can you think of any lyrics which do not reflect reality?

  4. First Listen Listen to the song. Do you think the lyrics are honest or do they not reflect reality?

  5. The song writer uses words with opposite meanings to convey meaning. e.g. Your my end and my beginning. Match the words given with their opposite meanings.

  6. Second Listen Listen again to check your answers.

  7. Lyrics Analysis 1 You will now be shown several parts of the song. Discuss with a partner what you think each part means.

  8. Lyrics Analysis 2 Stuck up around the room are some interpretations of the songs. With a partner, walk around and match the parts of the song with the meanings.

  9. Discussion How close were your interpretations of the lyrics to mine? Do you agree with my interpretations?

  10. Function of Using Opposite Meanings Writers often use this to convey ideas in different ways from the common words and expressions of daily life. Thus, it conveys meaning more vividly than ordinary speech. When contrasting ideas are brought together, the idea is expressed more emphatically.
