  1. S: 10.19.12 Easy Off Oven Cleaner Lab Identify and label the reactants and products of the following chemical equation. 2 Na2O2 + 2 H2O 4 NaOH + O2 Is this equation balanced? How do you know?

  2. P: Scientific Method

  3. Problem-Question we want to investigate. Why we do the experiment. • Hypothesis-An educated guess. • Materials-The equipment used. • Procedure-The steps you follow • Data: Observations that were made.

  4. Hypothesis Purpose Procedures Materials Data • You will need 5 post-it note, each color represents the 5 parts of the Scientific Method we discussed. • In the post it write your response on the post-it based on the lab.

  5. Practice Part 2“Easy Off Quick Lab” Supplies • 1 sheet of aluminum foil • Easy off oven cleaner • Goggles Purpose: We will use aluminum foil and oven cleaner to understand how a chemical reaction works.

  6. Practice Part 2“Easy Off Quick Lab” Infer: List as many properties of metals as you can Analysis: • What property changes did you observe as the reaction started to happen? • What “clues” did you observe that indicated a chemical reaction was happening?

  7. Application 1.Use your notes to explain the difference between an endothermic and exothermic reaction. 2. Determine at what points did each reaction happen in your lab investigation.

  8. Connections Tell me what did you think of todays lab? What was your favorite part? Least favorite part?

  9. Exit Half page reflection about: • What did you do? • What did you learn? • How did this help you understand chemical reactions?
