  5. Things to Remember when Writing Your Resume: • Make it easy to read • Make it memorable • Make it well-written

  6. Make It Easy to Read • Use of categories • Order with purpose • Order reverse-chronologically • Format for readability • 1 page maximum • Margins – min. 0.25 in • Bold and CAPITALIZE • Section headers • Job Titles/Positions

  7. Make it Memorable • Simple • Ask yourself: “What’s the core of this message?” • Eliminate Fluff! • Unexpected • Surprise the reader with your accomplishments by sharing interesting things • Tell a story • Use each bullet-point to paint a picture for the interviewer

  8. Tell a Story Example: • BAD: “Recruited new members using social media” • BETTER: “Recruited 10 new members using social media. New members became top performers and helped Club win first State title”

  9. Make it Well Written • No punctuation errors or miss-spelled words • Ex: March 22- Present vs. March 22, 2010-Present • Use the Active Voice • No passive verbs • (Helped vs. Collaborated) • Use University Resources • Tips • Guidelines • Examples
