  2. ALICE O2 project P. Vande Vyvre • Common DAQ, HLT, Offline project • Online-offline computing after LS2 • Part of the Upgrade LoI of September 2012 and endorsed by the LHCC • Present laboratories: • DAQ • Labs after the transfer from 4-R and 53-R decided in April 2010 (and delivered in December 2011) • 4-S-027: DAQ lab 45 m2 • 4-S-034: DDL lab 34 m2 • HLT: none at CERN • Offline: • 13-R-018: staging room shared with PH-ESE • 13-R-020: 4 racks of servers: Grid central services, AliRoot build and test systems; operation 24/7

  3. Laboratory space P. Vande Vyvre • Present DAQ lab (4-S-027) • Dimensioned for 8 racksPresently with 10 racks (2 from HLT during the work at P2) • Future O2lab • ALICE upgrade started after DAQ lab decision • O2 system currently estimated to ~200 racks • R&D and prototyping: ~10% → 20 racks • => Power: triphase 400 V, 3x160 A. Cooling: 100 kW mininmum. • If possible close to bld. 3, 4, 53, 58 • 3 rooms of 4-R (054, 056, 060) not very much used at preset regrouped together would be adequate

  4. Proposal P. Vande Vyvre • 4-R-054 (PH-ESE): used (2 month/year) by Markus Joos for the TDAQschool (standard infrastructure:needs only power and network, almost every room suits these needs) • 4-R-056 (PH-ESE): kept in case a rack activity is restarted in ESE (high ceiling, mixed water available)-wasn’t it the purpose to group all ESE activitiesin Bldg 13? • 4-R-060(Power and water pipes) . What used for? • 2016: • O2 lab in 4-R-054, 056, 060Work to start Apr 2014 • 2019: • 13-R-020: ALICE to PH-ESE after Run 2 • Offline server infrastructure to be migrated to present DAQ lab (4-S-027)
