Luke 18:9 And he spake this parable unto certain which trusted in themselves that they were righteous, and despised others: • 耶 穌 向 那 些 仗 著 自 己 是 義 人 、 藐 視 別 人 的 、 設 一 個 比 喻 、 • 18:10 Two men went up into the temple to pray; the one a Pharisee, and the other a publican. • 說 、 有 兩 個 人 上 殿 裡 去 禱 告 ． 一 個 是 法 利 賽 人 、 一 個 是 稅 吏 。

Luke 18:11 The Pharisee stood and prayed thus with himself, God, I thank thee, that I am not as other men are, extortioners, unjust, adulterers, or even as this publican. • 法 利 賽 人 站 著 、 自 言 自 語 的 禱 告 說 、 　 神 阿 、 我 感 謝 你 、 我 不 像 別 人 、 勒 索 、 不 義 、 姦 淫 、 也 不 像 這 個 稅 吏 。 • 18:12 I fast twice in the week, I give tithes of all that I possess. • 我 一 個 禮 拜 禁 食 兩 次 、 凡 我 所 得 的 、 都 捐 上 十 分 之 一 。

The 7 Woes of the Pharisees #4 • Matthew 23:23你 們 這 假 冒 為 善 的 文 士 和 法 利 賽 人 有 禍 了 ． 因 為 你 們 將 薄 荷 、 茴 香 、 芹 菜 、 獻 上 十 分 之 一 ． 那 律 法 上 更 重 的 事 、 就 是 公 義 、 憐 憫 、 信 實 、 反 倒 不 行 了 ． 這 更 重 的 是 你 們 當 行 的 、 那 也 是 不 可 不 行 的 。 • [bbe] A curse is on you, scribes and Pharisees, false ones! for you make men give a tenth of all sorts of sweet-smelling plants, but you give no thought to the more important things of the law, righteousness, and mercy, and faith; but it is right for you to do these, and not to let the others be undone. • 23:24 你 們 這 瞎 眼 領 路 的 、 蠓 蟲 你 們 就 濾 出 來 、 駱 駝 你 們 倒 吞 下 去 。 • [bbe] You blind guides, who take out a fly from your drink, but make no trouble over a camel.

The 7 Woes of the Pharisees #5 • Matthew 23:25你 們 這 假 冒 為 善 的 文 士 和 法 利 賽 人 有 禍 了 ． 因 為 你 們 洗 淨 杯 盤 的 外 面 、 裡 面 卻 盛 滿 了 勒 索 和 放 蕩 。 • [bbe] A curse is on you, scribes and Pharisees, false ones! for you make clean the outside of the cup and of the plate, but inside they are full of violent behaviour and uncontrolled desire. • 23:26 你 這 瞎 眼 的 法 利 賽 人 、 先 洗 淨 杯 盤 的 裡 面 、 好 叫 外 面 也 乾 淨 了 。 • [bbe] You blind Pharisee, first make clean the inside of the cup and of the plate, so that the outside may become equally clean.

The 7 Woes of the Pharisees #6 • Matthew 23:27你 們 這 假 冒 為 善 的 文 士 和 法 利 賽 人 有 禍 了 ． 因 為 你 們 好 像 粉 飾 的 墳 墓 、 外 面 好 看 、 裡 面 卻 裝 滿 了 死 人 的 骨 頭 、 和 一 切 的 污 穢 。 • [bbe] A curse is on you, scribes and Pharisees, false ones! for you are like the resting-places of the dead, which are made white, and seem beautiful on the outside, but inside are full of dead men's bones and of all unclean things. • 23:28 你 們 也 是 如 此 、 在 人 前 、 外 面 顯 出 公 義 來 、 裡 面 卻 裝 滿 了 假 善 和 不 法 的 事 。 • [bbe] Even so you seem to men to be full of righteousness, but inside you are all false and full of wrongdoing.

The 7 Woes of the Pharisees #7 • Matthew 23:29你 們 這 假 冒 為 善 的 文 士 和 法 利 賽 人 有 禍 了 ． 因 為 你 們 建 造 先 知 的 墳 、 修 飾 義 人 的 墓 、 說 、 • [bbe] A curse is on you, scribes and Pharisees, false ones! because you put up buildings for housing the dead bodies of the prophets, and make fair the last resting-places of good men, and say, • 23:30 若 是 我 們 在 我 們 祖 宗 的 時 候 、 必 不 和 他 們 同 流 先 知 的 血 。 • [bbe] If we had been living in the days of our fathers, we would not have taken part with them in the blood of the prophets.

  11. Luke 18:13 And the publican, standing afar off, would not lift up so much as his eyes unto heaven, but smote upon his breast, saying, God be merciful to me a sinner. • 那 稅 吏 遠 遠 的 站 著 、 連 舉 目 望 天 也 不 敢 、 只 捶 著 胸 說 、 　 神 阿 、 開 恩 可 憐 我 這 個 罪 人 。 • 18:14 I tell you, this man went down to his house justified rather than the other: for every one that exalteth himself shall be abased; and he that humbleth himself shall be exalted. • 我 告 訴 你 們 、 這 人 回 家 去 、 比 那 人 倒 算 為 義 了 ． 因 為 凡 自 高 的 、 必 降 為 卑 ． 自 卑 的 、 必 升 為 高 。

The Pharisee Exam • I regularly choose to have meals with people with very different faith or morals from me. • JESUS • I see domestic helpers as important people with real spiritual needs. • JESUS • As a Westerner, I have a lot of good ideas about church to offer my Asian friends. • PHARISEE • As an Asian, I don’t need to try and understand Westerners. • PHARISEE • I like it when other people realize that I’m spiritual. • PHARISEE • I try to discover the needs of non-Christians and help meet those needs. • JESUS • I am personally spending time with non-believers to help them follow Jesus. • JESUS • I often think to myself: “I would NEVER do THAT!” • PHARISEE • God does not work in the lives of people that don’t follow Him. • PHARISEE • It is a waste of money to give to a beggar that obviously messed up his life with bad choices. • PHARISEE • I can learn something from every person God brings into my life. • JESUS

I frequently discuss the sins of people at my job with my friends. • PHARISEE • I feel compassion for people who are doing immoral things. • JESUS • I tell others the most important thing in my life is following God’s rules. • PHARISEE • I don’t talk about my sins or struggles. That’s between me and God. • PHARISEE • I try to avoid spending time with people who are openly gay or lesbian. • PHARISEE • It’s not my responsibility to help people who won’t help themselves. • PHARISEE • I feel grateful to be a Christian when I see other people’s failures and flaws. • PHARISEE • People who follow God’s rules are better than those who do not. • PHARISEE • The Bible is primarily a rulebook of laws for me to follow. • PHARISEE
