  1. ABC and SORC Definitions: Setting Event - Situations that make the Bx more likely to occur. Antecedent - Event that triggers the Bx. Behavior - The individual's action. Consequence - Result that follows the behavior (+/-R or +/-P) • Stimulus - Factors that occur prior to Bx. • Organismic - Relevant internal variables. • Response - The individual's action. • Consequence - Same as above.

  2. Defining & Understanding Behavior Most of us know "A-B-C" (Antecedent, Behavior, Consequence). Despite the order, the behavior (B) is always our starting point. Antecedent / Trigger When ___ happens... Behavior the student does (what) Consequence/Outcome because (why) ___.

  3. ABC Activity Hold on to your seats folks… we just got a PK referral! • The kid with the orange shirt – Phil • Setting events – Circle time • BOCs – • Physical disruption – Phil touches others with his body. • Verbal disruption – Phil makes noises; is not answering questions or speaking with permission. • Off-task – Phil has his eyes off of instructional materials or teacher, he is not participating as directed by an adult. • Time to collect some ABC data, let’s see if we can figure out why he is behaving in these ways.
