  4. The Scenario • You live in Pacific Heights, San Francisco. You have a small sturdy shed in your garden, well away from the house, which houses your garden tools. • On the advice of local fire officers you are going to put together an earthquake emergency kit and store it in this shed so it would be accessible in the event of an earthquake.

  6. Competition Time • You will see 30 items that could be packed into an earthquake survival kit. • How many can you remember?

The Venn Diagram • Discuss all your items on the list and place all 30 of your earthquake survival items into the Venn diagram in the appropriate section. • Complete one Venn Diagram per person • LEDC / MEDC / BOTH • So, which of your six original items would be available if you lived in an earthquake prone LEDC such as Pakistan?

  12. Group Work • Produce a presentation guide suitable for the USA. Your presentation should show the vulnerable populations how they can prepare for a major earthquake event. • Make sure that your chosen media will reach the maximum number of people possible.
