    2. Introduction The student body has petitioned the school board to include fast food options in the cafeteria. The school board has requested further investigation before moving forward on this idea. The students must present to the board a detailed analysis of the nutritional values of McDonald’s Vs. Burger King meals.

    3. Task You are on the student body board that is preparing for the school board meeting. Your team must research food items and their total fat, cholesterol, sodium, and carbohydrates. You will analyze the data and prepare several different types of graphs to present at the upcoming school board meeting. You will prepare your data in Excel. Your final presentation will be a PowerPoint, and it will include the graphs and analysis from your research. Good Luck with your presentation. I hope you are successful in convincing the school board to accept your proposal.

    4. Process: Getting Ready and Gathering Data Open a new Microsoft excel spreadsheet document. In cells A1 through E1 enter the following: Food Item, Total Fat, Cholesterol, Sodium, Carbs. Copy the information in the row you just entered and paste it into row 6. Enter the following: A2 = Big Mac; A3 = Fries; A4 = Sundae; A7 = Whopper; A8 = Fries; A9 = Sundae Pie Open a web browser. Got to http://www.nutritiondata.com Use the food search window in the upper right corner to find the desired food item. Record the data in your excel table.

    5. Process: Creating 2 Charts Click and drag to select cells A1 through E4. Click the Chart Wizard icon in the toolbar at the top of the page. Choose the appropriate graph. Create on graph for the McDonalds nutritional information. Repeat the process to create a graph for the Burger King nutritional information. Make sure to include a title for each graph and label the Y axis of each graph as Percent Daily Allowance.

    6. Process: Changing the Axis Scale To compare the 2 charts, they should use the same scale. Choose one of the charts. Double click one of the numbers in the bottom axis of the chart. Click the scale tab at the top of the window. Set the following: Maximum = 140 Major Unit = 20 Click OK Repeat for 2nd chart.

    7. Process: Adding Values Right click a blank white area of one of the charts. Choose Chart Options. Click on Data Labels tab. Click to check “Value.” Click OK. Repeat steps for 2nd chart.

    8. Process: Analyzing Data Answer these questions to think about for your presentation: What is the total fat percent for each restaurant? Is the value near 100%? Over 110%? What does this tell the school board members? The school system is under federal guidelines for nutrition. We need to lower the carb intake for students. Which meal (McDonalds or Burger King) would be a better meal to choose? We also need to watch the fat intake of our students. Which meal (McDonalds or Burger King) would be a better meal to choose? Have you heard the saying, “Lesser of two evils?” What do you think it means? How does it apply here? Are there healthy options to consider. Should you research other healthier options that McDonalds or Burger King have? If so, can you prepare information on it to present as well.

    9. Evaluation

    10. Conclusion Your Presentation is now ready for discussion and debate. Dress nicely and present your information in a clear confident voice. Good Luck! I hope you win.
