Structuring you answer…

If I were you…

Introduction

  • Comment on power of media

  • Quote on identity (referenced)

  • Explain your approach (which media?)

    Main Body

  • Begin with film (chose two or three, old and new)

  • Explain in turn, making links where necessary, the ideologies presented in these films (youth subcultures, gang culture, masculinity in crisis, absent fathers…) and how they are presented (m-e-s (fashion), soundtracks (music), locations etc).

  • Bring in terminology (eg stereotypes) and theory (identity) wherever possible .

  • Could refer to endings of films – resolution?

  • Move onto next media and do the same (eg music videos)

    Conclusion

  • Summarise findings.

Advice
Advice…

  • Revise!

  • Start with Question 2 (1 hour)

  • Remember for Q1 to consider the logistics and practicality of your work (eg r and p) rather than just describing what you did.

  • Have a look at your coursework and consider each in terms of

    • Audience

    • Narrative

    • Representation (unlikely)

    • Conventions
