  14. This pitch is for the phase titled: LONG BOAT 14 hammocks on an 18 metre long rotating, tilting keel, with associated participatory activity:

  16. It works like this… Upon approach and from a distance people see the Structure:

  17. As they get closer, they see the People / Crew – costumed in a range of items: from boiler suits, dungarees, stripey t-shirts, golden boots…

  18. Hear the drums… And chains…

  19. By then, the participant will have arrived at one of our eight Stations around the circle:

  20. MIGRATION: How long does it take for a Sperm Whale to swim from the North to the South Pole, and – Does it need a passport? Where do you draw the line? and the chain rattles: the sound of the waves, Or the plight of the slaves?

  21. ETHICS: Is it fair?

  22. SUSTAINABILITY: How long will it last? What do you think is going to happen to our planet in your life time?

  23. TRADE: How much are you worth? Is your brother worth more than your sister? Do the rich have so much because the poor have so little?

  25. DEATH: A photo opportunity…

  27. FORECASTS For the FUTURE

  28. Rock gently, turn slowly, take care of yourself and each other… Allow the spectacle to unfold through conversation and contemplation. As the drums beat And the chains rattle The people slow down Make conversation Help with the work Write their forecasts for the future Participate with each other Look at the world from a different point of view… Roll up, roll up, ladies and gentlemen, for the slowest ride of your life…

  31. There are seven essential Crew members: A Stage Manager & a Cook TAKE CARE OF EACH OTHER WHEN CLIMBING IN & OUT OF HAMMOCKS…

  32. HELP PUSH THE KEEL AROUND… Making sure no-one is hurt. DEBATE about stardust, Unicorns, Snails & Stargazers… And other banter on: climate change, POLITICS, fairness, HOPE, love, DEATH, transformation, HISTORY & the weather… After participants have rocked slowly, and turned gently – they are free to return to any of the surrounding stations, help push the boat round, talk to each other, take pictures, write, draw, play the drums, or continue their journey…

  34. LONG BOAT The Boat turns for 2 – 4 days (more or less as required) People participate in the world – differently… Through calm and storms, gentleness and kindness, a momentum develops… On the final evening there is a musical spectacular, followed by an energized calm…

BUDGET: BUILD & MAKE READY COSTS: £125k WEEKLY TOURING COST: £9500 CAPACITY: 14 Hammocks (Average of 2+ per hammock) = 30 people every 15 mins = 120 people per hour. 8 hour days = 960 people per day Based on an average /three day week = 2880 10 weeks = 28800 SUBSIDYper person: £7.64 (Based upon Build. Make-Ready & 10 week tour)
