  1. Welcome to eye Engaging Youth through Engineering

  2. Catching the Wind:Designing Windmills Air, Weather, and Mechanical Engineering for Elementary Students Integrating engineering with elementary science topics

  3. Take Technology Survey

  4. Goal of Unit • Discover and discuss wind methods that engineers use to capture its energy. • Increase technological literacy • Find out how things work • Enliven math and science • Foster problem solving skills • Embrace hands-on learning • Raise awareness of and access to scientific and technical careers

  5. Preparatory Lesson Vocabulary • Engineering • Material • Problem • Solution • Technology

  6. Preparatory Lesson Goal • Identify everyday objects made by people as technology. • Identify the problem that a particular object solves. • Identify the materials used to make an object • Identify that objects are designed as a solution to a problem. • Identify engineers as the people who design objects

  7. Technology in a bag What are technologies? What is it? Is the object natural or human-made What problem was it designed to solve? What are other uses? What is it made of? What other materials could it be made of? Who do yo think creates these technologies?

  8. High Tower Working in teams, you have fifteen minutes to try to design and construct a new Museum of Science for downtown Mobile. You can only use index cards and tape. The team with the highest structure that can support pony for ten seconds is the winner. Good Luck

  9. Club Rules • Quickly and quietly be seated for attendance • All Class room and school rules apply • Teamwork • Cooperation • Clean area when finish • All fees due by second meeting • Cannot miss more than two days
