  1. Disney world By: Jeffery Zak Trevor Simpson Hannah D'Amico and Julia Peirolo

  2. History of Disney • The Disney company was founded in 1923 by Walter Elisa Disney in California • Over time the business grew into a multi-billion dollar American entertainment company • In the 1950’s the company began building theme parks called Disney World and Disney Land based off of their cartoons • The Disney company is looking to expand its amusement parks to an Asian country best suited for this type of entertainment

  3. Countries that We Considered • Japan – • China – • Taiwan-

  4. Questions to consider for each country • Climate/Weather- Is there good or bad weather? Are there a lot of natural disasters?Culture/Lifestyle- What type of activities do people do for fun?how do people spend their money?Economy- How is the economyCan people afford to go to the theme park?Population- Is there room for a theme park?is the population rural or urban?Competition- How many major parks are nearby? Are there any other amusement companies around?

  5. China…….not picked

  6. China Cont. • China has the largest population in the world • There is already a Disney World in China and many other Amusement parks • competition and overcrowding could be a major issue • Large cities have also created great pollution Beijing China China’s competition

  7. China Cont. • China’s government is communist, which America being democratic is greatly against • American ideas have affected China but many people still follow Chinese beliefs and resent America • The communist government can be oppressive and give people very little time for fun One of china’s already popular amusement parks

  8. Taiwan……not picked

  9. Taiwan…..not picked • Taiwan is a very small island much smaller than Japan with extreme over population • The economy is very bad at 17th in the world with much poverty and disease • Even though there are not many major theme parks, only a few people have money for things like Theme Parks • No real target market • Monsoons, Earthquakes, flooding and tsunamis could potentially destroy the theme park

  10. Taiwan Cont. Over crowding in Taiwan Large average rainfall in the time periods when people want to go to amusement parks can be a huge problem for a Disney in Taiwan.

  11. Japan….. picked

  12. Disney World Japan • The climate and weather of Japan in the southern region is usually warm tropical weather perfect for a theme park to run all year long • Japan will sometime receive earthquakes and tsunamis but if Disney is located inland these disasters are not a concern

  13. Disney World Japan • Japan has greatly embraced western ideas • similar cultural ideas as America • The Japanese like the idea of amusement parks and rides and greatly embrace companies like Disney World • The Japanese amusement parks have been very popular

  14. Japan Cont. • Japan has the third largest economy in the world • Many people will be able to afford going to the amusement park with a GDP close to America’s • Their unemployment rate is at 9.1% which means their will be no shortage of labor for the park

  15. Disney World Japan • Japan has a very large population in the hundreds of millions with very urban settings • As a result Disney could attract a very large target market in Japanese cities • to compete with other theme Parks it would also be smart to make the theme park full of arcades and slower rides for the large elderly population http://cnn.com/video/data/2.0/video/world/2012/02/08/lah-japan-elderly-gamers.cnn.html

  16. Cultural Consideration • There should not be an extreme amount of cultural shock when moving to Japan because we live very similar lives. • Japan has a vastly different language, but could be easily overcome with a translator • Japan is a much more urban country than America with many large modern cities • the Japanese tend to eat much more seafood than meat as in Americawith much more rice • Over all these should not be a big challenge to overcome with some pre training and could be a fun experience.
