  1. Personal Learning Networks Growth, Focuses, Key People

  2. January 18th, 2013 This was the beginning, initial snapshot of my PLN, with a barebones direction for where I wanted to focus.

  3. February 11th, 2013 Having followed many more educators and activists as well as news sources for teachers, I have accumulated more tweets, more followed people, but not any more followers.

  4. We Are Teachers @WeAreTeachers • We Are Teachers are an amalgamation of an online community of teachers that shares and highlights interesting pieces, teaching methods, and networking tools for teachers. • They often will point out interesting links around the internet, bringing in the best from various educators. • They tweet regularly and even sometimes highlight followers, a great way to get PLN exposure. • An awesome source of information for teachers as it often features resources on how to better engage students.

  5. Discovery Education @DiscoveryEd • A managed source for the Discovery channel that attempts to give teachers a resource to help bring a different view or focus to different topics (science, history). • Highlights new technologies for use in the classroom, as well as highlighting how to better use technology. • A great way to keep current sources of knowledge, especially around the sciences!

  6. Learning Matters • @lmtv • While being relatively limited in use for networking, Learning Matters highlights important political trends and topical stories relating to education. This allows an educator to better anticipate and judge problems within schools. • It also informs readers about possible reforms, budget cuts, and allows them to better act within the constraints of the education system. • Updated relatively frequently, and always links to interesting stories.

  7. PLN Participation • While my Twitter followers were hardly raised, I did manage to connect with other educators through comment sections at various websites/new sources as well as having a chance to connect at least a bit with people on Twitter and read their opinions. Twitter’s main value is that it has provided me a huge cornucopia of resources, ideas for teaching, and information on where teaching is headed. • The primary focus of my PLN has been on K-12 education, with a small focus on university education. As well my PLN focused on educational reform groups, educational information groups such as Discovery, and news sources focused on education. • My interactions, one-sided as they might be with educators in that I have replied, or retweeted their posts have actually benefited me greatly, as the time I spent reading relevant material to reply to really helped develop my knowledge of teaching, and also in the slim chance that a connection could be made through following or retweeting another professional on my PLN.
