  5. Issues: Emotional Intelligence (EQ) is more effective than Intelligence Quotient (IQ) in career successful of manager.

  6. IQ contributes, at best about 20% to the factor that determine life success. That leaves 80% to everything else. • Arguments by Goleman; • IQ-idolizing view of intelligence is far too narrow • EQ is learnable than IQ in our life. • EQ is offer an added edge in the workplace where much evidence testifies that people who are emotionally adept-who know and manage their feelings well and who lead and deal effectively with other people’s feeling.

  7. 1.Positively manage emotions. • Likely to be important for managers understand how their own feeling and emotions in managing the organizations. • Can manage one’s emotional states to control emotions or to shift undesirable emotional states to more adequate one • An understanding of feeling and personality and the situation in which they perform best enables a manager to help employees to perform at a high level and feel good about the work they are doing.

Make better decisions. • Ability to identify what they should do in situations that need a decision. • Able to understand the link between emotions, thought and actions in decision making to create a better decision in the organization. • Even in the most “rational” of decisions, emotions persists how else do they decide which criteria to use evaluating the options in making a decision.

Effectively manage conflict and change • Ability to identify, be sensitive to and influence employee’s emotions and therefore can avoid and also manage conflict effectively. • Emotions and feelings facilitate manager to know and/or diversification in organization, so that, any problems and conflict between them and also employees can be solved and avoid.

  10. Aware in changes of their own and they use of their awareness of emotions of others to change and build good relationship for a successful outcome.

Gain trust and cooperation. • Emotional self-awareness can help the manager to being trust and build cooperation. • Enhance cooperation and the sharing information necessary for creativity and innovation. • Able to infect their employees with the emotions and good feelings led to improved cooperation and also gain trust among them.

Inspire and influence positive action. • Better able to regulate their emotions will find it easier to develop a competency to take a positive action. • Manager with well-developed emotional skills can build an effective way to take action in their job besides he or she have an effective habits of mind that can foster them to influence positive action in their job life.

Chapter 3 - When Smart Is Dumb • Example David Pologruto v.s Jason • Academic Intelligence has little to do with emotional life. • IQ contributes about about 20% to the factors that determine life success, which leaves 80% to other forces. Chapter 4 - know thyself • Goleman discusses a reflexive mode of experience which he calls “self-awareness” or “self-observation”. • Self-awareness is fundamental to psychological insight; this is the faculty that much of psychotherapy means to strengthen.

Chapter 5 - Passion’s Slaves • Emotions is something of a full-time job: much of what we do- especially in our free time, is an attempt to manage mood. • ANGER IS NEVER WITHOUT A REASON, BUT SELDOM A GOOD ONE!! • Noting that anger is the most difficult emotional impulse to resist, Goleman debunks the popular myth that “ventilating” is an effective way of reducing • anger. • Examples : self- awareness And relaxation • methods.

At young ages children set their tones and attitudes for life. • Chapter 7 - The Roots of Empathy • Empathy is build on self-awareness; The More open we are to our own emotion, the more skilled we will be in reading feeling.

Chapter 8 - The Social Arts • Emotions are contagious.  Story Of Monk • We catch feeling from one another as though they were some kind of social virus. • People who are able to help others soothe their feelings have an especially valued social commodity; they are the SOULS others turn to when in greatest emotional need. • Example: Relationship between teachers v.s students.
