The Simple Past

We use the simple past to talk about completed

actions in the past:

Affirmative:

I / you / we / he / she / they...

…visited a museum yesterday.

2. Negative

I / you / we / he / she / they...

…didn’t go to a concert 2 days ago.

The Simple Past

Regular verbs in the past end in -ed:

Work worked

Play played

arrive arrived

Irregular verbs do not end in –ed

take took

go went

make made

The Past Continuous

was/were + verb + ing

We use the past continuous to talk about:

Actions in progress in the past.

He was talking about the weather for hours.

2. Longer actions interrupted by shorter actions.
