  2. There are many symptoms when it comes to Hip Replacement including loss in movement of the hips, difficulty walking, not able to bear some weight or even no weight, and chronic pain in the hip flexors and hip region that medicine cannot even control. Symptoms:

  3. The rate of hip replacements increased by over 25% between the years 2000-2009. 10% of men and 18% of women over 60 years of age will need a Hip Replacement. Prevalence:

  4. Osteoarthritis: when cartilage on the end of the bone begins to wear away, causing pain and stiffness • Rheumatoid Arthritis: autoimmune disease in which the synovial membrane becomes inflamed. Causes/Transmitted

  5. Traumatic Arthritis: the articular cartilage becomes damaged and overtime, can causes severe hip pain • Avascular Necrosis: head of the femur loses blood supply and literally dies • Idiopathic Osteonecrosis: no known cause yet Causes/Transmitted cont.

  6. There are many different types of treatments when it comes to post-hip replacement surgery: • Physical Therapy and Other Rehabilitation options. The patient will spend no more than 10 days in the hospital after the surgery has been performed. Treatment

  7. Once home, the doctor will suggest that you rest and relax. Try to set up a station where there is a TV, the remote, a waste container, a pitcher and glass for your beverage and someone that is willing to help you when you need help and “cater” to your needs. Treatment cont.
