  2. Carbohydrates Simple sugars, quick source of energy There are 2 types of simple sugars (carbohydrates) -Simple (pop, candy, donuts, ice cream) • complex (carrots, corn, nuts, broccoli)

  3. Vitamins • Vitamins have many jobs • Boost the immune system • And support normal growth/development • There are 10 types • Vitamin A • Vitamin B • Vitamin C • Vitamin D • Vitamin E…

  4. Fibre • Fibre is found in plants we eat - fruits, vegetables, grains and lengumes 2 types of fibre, solube fibre and insolube fibre Fibre can help lower blood cholesterol, prevent diabetes and heart disease As well fibre has no calories

  5. Minerals • Minerals help our body function properly • Minerals and vitamins very almost the same but minerals are inorganic, unlike vitamins • 2 types of minerals -Major mineral and Trace minerals… • Major minerals contain, -calcium, magnesium, sodium, chlorine…. • Trace minerals contain, -iron, cobalt, magnesium, zinc…

Protein • Proteins are made up of amino acid strings • Protein helps build and repair muscle tissue, build bones… • 2 types of protein -complete protein and incomplete protein • Incomplete - plants like corn are incomplete because they don’t have all amino acids • Complete - food like fish, beef, cheese are complete because they have all of the necessary amino acids

  7. Fats • Fat is a component in food • fat is an important part in a healthy diet • When young it is very important to drink whole milk so brain tissue and nervous system can develop • There is almost no fat in fruits and vegetables • Oils, nuts, meats like beef all contain fat

  8. Water • Is one of the most essential things needed for the body • Water helps cells, muscles, brain and more to function properly • Your body doesn’t just get water from drinking it but also so from food like fruit and vegetables… watermelon, orange, tomato…
