  2. “Plant into the Heart the promises” Moroni to Joseph Smith 21-22 Sept 1823 Behold, I will reveal unto you the Priesthood, by the hand of Elijah the prophet, before the coming of the great and dreadful day of the Lord. And he shall plant in the hearts of the children the promises made to the fathers, and the hearts of the children shall turn to their fathers. If it were not so, the whole earth would be utterly wasted at his coming.(D&C 2:1-3; JS Hist 1: 38-39)

I was informed that I was chosen to be an instrument in the hands of God to bring about some of His purposes in this glorious dispensation." Nephi affirms importance of the promises-- 4 Behold, my soul delighteth in proving unto my people the truth of the coming of Christ; for, for this end hath the law of Moses been given; and all things which have been given of God from the beginning of the world, unto man, are the typifying of him. 5 And also my soul delighteth in the covenants of the Lord which he hath made to our fathers; yea, my soul delighteth in his grace, and in his justice, and power, and mercy in the great and eternal plan of deliverance from death. (2 Nephi 11:4-5)

  23. We know that the Atonement of Jesus Christ is the pivotal feature of the entire plan. Without the Atoning sacrifice, man would be doomed. Aaron taught the King: “since man had fallen he could not merit anything of himself” (Alma 22:14)
