All levels of government are key partners in our work. They play a critical role in addressing the SDOH including poverty reduction.
“the municipal governments are closest to their communities and have tools to respond to the needs of communities. We are asking them to show leadership by putting their resources towards poverty reduction”
The province has developed the Ontario Poverty Reduction Strategy: Breaking the Cycle and they are challenging municipalities to develop their own
Some municipalities are developing poverty reduction strategies including; CKL and Haliburton, Peterborough, Nipissing, Waterloo, Kingston, Ottawa, Niagara Region etc.
Steering committee includes leaders from various backgrounds … social, health, legal, housing/poverty coalition members and councilors for CKL and Haliburton County
“ As income is a powerful social determinant of health, poverty reduction has been prioritized as an area for local board of health action.”
“This questions pertains to the provincial poverty reduction strategy …does the Board of Health participate in local poverty reduction efforts?”
