AGRO-PROCESSING SECTORSEAFOOD PROCESSING SUB-SECTOR There are five (5) investment projects Three (3) are new projects (N) and two (2) are expansion projects (EX) Four (4) are operating (O) and one (1) is in the “pipeline” (PL) TOTAL INVESTMENT The total investment is three billion four hundred and sixty million Guyana dollars (G$3.460 Billion) TOTAL DIRECT JOBS The total number of new direct jobs is eighty (80) and another two hundred and thirty (230) employees were rehired by United Star Seafoods and Pritipaul Singh Investments after acquisitions. 1 FDI AND 4 LOCAL INVESTMENT PROJECTS INVESTMENT PROJECTSAMOUNTS INVESTED G$NEW DIRECT JOBS CREATED DISPERSED ECONOMIC ACTIVITES One (1) project is in Region 5 and one (1) is in Region 2. Three (3) projects are in Region 4. DIVERSIFICATION One project specializes in shark products.

  3. TRADITIONAL PROCESSING (SUGAR AND RICE) SUB-SECTOR There are five (5) investment projects. Four (4) are new projects (N) and one (1) is an expansion project (EX). Four (4) are operating (O) and one (1) is in the “pipeline” (PL). TOTAL INVESTMENT The total investment is sixteen billion one hundred and ninety million Guyana dollars (G$16.190 Billion) TOTAL DIRECT JOBS The total number of new direct jobs is two hundred and sixty-five (265) 3 FDI AND 1 LOCAL INVESTMENT PROJECT 1 JOINT VENTURE PROJECT The joint venture project is the Guyana Sugar Corporation (GUYSUCO) with investors from China and India for a total investment of sixteen billion Guyana dollars (G$ 16B) which created two hundred (200) new direct jobs (N) (PL). DISPERSED ECONOMIC ACTIVITIES Two (2) of the projects are located in Region 6. One (1) project is in Region 5, one (1) in Region 4 and one (1) in Region 2. DIVERSIFICATION One project is a state-of-the-art parboiled rice mill and another project is co-generation of energy using bagasse.

  4. MEAT AND DAIRY PROCESSING SUB-SECTOR There are seven (7) projects in this sub-sector. Five (5) are new projects (N) and two (2) are expansions (EX) Three (3) are operating (O) and four (4) are in the “pipeline”(PL) TOTAL INVESTMENT AND NEW DIRECT JOBS The total investment in this sub-sector is ninety-seven million Guyana dollars (G$97 Million) and thirty-one (31) new direct jobs. 3 FDI and 3 LOCAL INVESMENT PROJECTS The three (3) FDI projects are: 1 JOINT VENTURE This is the Guyana Ranch Company which is a joint venture between Guyanese and Canadian investors G$ 20M and 5 New Direct Jobs (O) (N). DISPERSED ECONOMIC ACTIVITIES Four (4) of the projects are located in Region 6. Two (2) projects are in Region 10 and one (1) is in Region 4. DIVERSIFICATION One project is rearing goats and another is developing a pork farm.

  5. POULTRY PROCESSING SUB SECTOR There are three (3) projects. All are local investments. All three (3) are operating (O) and all are expansion projects (EX). TOTAL INVESTMENT AND DIRECT JOBS The total investment is five hundred and seventy million Guyana dollars ((G$570 Million) and sixteen (16) new direct jobs. 3 LOCAL INVESTMENT PROJECTS All three (3) are located in Region 4

  6. FRUIT AND VEGETABLE PROCESSING SUB SECTOR There are twelve (12) investment projects. Five (5) are new projects (N) and seven (7) are expansion projects (EX). Nine (9) are operating (O) and three (3) are in the “pipeline” (PL). TOTAL INVESTMENT AND NEW DIRECT JOBS The total investment is one hundred and eight-seven million Guyana dollars (G$187 Million) and ninety-eight (98) new direct jobs. 3 FDI AND 8 LOCAL INVESTMENT PROJECTS

The local investors are: 1 JOINT VENTURE The joint venture is a partnership between a local Guyanese entrepreneur and YOMI Foods of the USA G$15M and 12 New Direct jobs (N) (PL) DISPERSED ECONOMIC ACTIVITIES There are two (2) projects in Region 2 and six (6) in Region 4. Regions 1, 5, 3 and 10 each has one (1) project. DIVERSIFICATION A number of the companies are producing new product lines such as organic pineapple chunks, amchar, carambola mix, plantain and yam flours, international branded sauces, pineapple wine, herbal teas and ice cream cakes.

  8. AQUACULTURE (FISH FARMING) SUB SECTOR There is one (1) major project which is the New Line Aquafarm in Region 3. The total investment in 2005 is two hundred million Guyana dollars (G$200Million) and fifteen (15) new direct jobs (O) EX). This is a local investment that is expanding.

  9. ANIMAL FEED PROCESSING SUB SECTOR There are three (3) projects in this sub-sector. All three (3) are new projects (N). All three (3) are in the “pipeline” (PL). TOTAL INVESTMENT AND TOAL NEW DIRECT JOBS The total investment is three hundred and sixty million Guyana dollars (G$360 Million) and thirty-five (35) new direct jobs. 1 FDI, 1 LOCAL AND 1 JOINT VENTURE The FDI project is Hosiers Limited of Ireland – G$20M and 10 New Direct Jobs (N) (PL). The local project is DIDCO with a total investment of G$300M that created 15 New Direct Jobs (N) (PL). The joint venture is between Guswyn’s and a company from China with a total investment of G$40M and 10 New Direct Jobs (N) (PL). DISPERSED ECONOMIC ACTIVITIES One (1) project is in Region 3 and the other two (2) are in Region 4.

  10. LIGHT MANUFACTURING SECTOR NUMBER OF PROJECTS In 2005, there were twelve (12) investment projects. Ten (10) are new projects (N). The other two (2) are expansion projects (EX). Eight (8) of these projects are operating (O) and four ($) are in the “pipeline” – the pre-production phase (PL). TOTAL INVESTMENT The total investment is nine hundred and fifty-four million Guyana dollars (G$954 Million). TOTAL DIRECT JOBS The total number of direct jobs is two hundred and eighty-eight (288). 3 FDI (FOREIGN DIRECT INVESTMENT) PROJECTS Three (3) of the projects are foreign-owned totaling three hundred and seventy-four million Guyana dollars (G$374 Million) and 44 New Direct Jobs.

  11. Two (2) are operating (O) and one (1) is in the pipeline (PL). Two (2) are new projects (N) and one (!) is an expansion (EX). 3 JOINT VENTURE PROJECTS Three (3) of the projects are joint ventures totaling two hundred million Guyana dollars (G$200 Million and one hundred and eighty-three (183) new direct jobs. One (1) is operating (O) and two (2) are in the “pipeline” (PL). All three (3) are new projects (N). 6 LOCAL INVESTMENT PROJECTS There were six (6) local investment projects totaling three hundred and eighty million Guyana dollars (G$380Million) with sixty-one (61) new direct jobs.

  12. Five (5) are operating (O) and one (1) is in the “pipeline” (PL). Five (5) are new projects (N) and one (1) is an expansion (EX). DISPERSED ECONOMIC ACTIVITIES Two (2) of the projects are located in Region 6 and one (1) in Region 10. The other nine (9) projects are in Region 4. DIVERSIFICATION A number of these projects are manufacturing new products such cocopeat fertilizer; thinset and grout, glass display furniture; heavy-duty, recycleable batteries; special leather sandals and shoes; and flour mixes.

  14. 2005 services sectorfinancial sub-sector There are five (5) investment projects. All five (5) are new projects (N). One (1) is operating (O) and four (4) are in the “pipeline” (PL). TOTAL INVESTMENT AND TOTAL NEW DIRECT JOBS The total investment is five billion six hundred and twenty-six million Guyana dollars (G$5.626 Billion) and one hundred and five (105) new direct jobs. 3 FDI AND 2 LOCAL INVESTMENT PROJECTS The 3 FDI project are from Trinidad and Tobago:

  15. The other two (2) projects are local investments. They are: DIVERSIFICATION One (1) project will be offering stock market services. Another is offering long-term financing and micro-credit. One (1) project will be a state-of-the-art banking centre.

  16. HOSPITALITY (ENTERTAINMENT AND RESTAURANTS) SUB-SECTOR There are nine (9) investment projects. All nine (9) are new projects (N). Four (4) projects are operating (O) and they are all located in Region 4: The other two (2) projects are local investments. They are:

  17. DISPERSED ECONOMIC ACTIVITIES Only one (1) of the projects is located outside of Region 4. DIVERSIFICATION Two projects are modern cineplexes and another two offer specialty coffees. 9 LOCAL INVESTMENT PROJECTS All nine (9) are local investments . TOTAL INVESTMENT AND TOTAL NEW DIRECT JOBS The total investment is two hundred and fifty-two million Guyana dollars (G$252 Million) and one hundred and forty-five (145) new direct jobs.

  18. Medical sub-sector There are four (4) investment projects. They are: All four (4) are new projects (N) and all four (4) are operating (O). All of these projects are located in Region 4. TOTAL INVESTMENT AND TOTAL NEW DIRECT JOBS The total investment is one hundred and forty-two million Guyana dollars (G$142 Million) and eighteen (18) new direct jobs. 4 FDI PROJECTS All four (4) projects are foreign-owned. DIVERSIFICATION All four (4) of these projects offer specialized medical services.

  19. TRANSPORTATION SUB-SECTOR There are three (3) projects. All three (3) are operating (O). One (1) is a new project (N) and the other two (2) are expansions (EX). TOTAL INVESTMENT AND NEW DIRECT JOBS The total investment is seventy-six million six hundred thousand Guyana dollars (G$76.6 Million) and forty-nine (49) new direct jobs. 2 LOCAL INVESTMENTS AND 1 JOINT VENTURE Two (2) of the projects are local investments. They are: The joint venture project is the Intraserv Bus Service which is a Guyana/Brazil partnership with a total investment of G$26M which created 15 New Direct Jobs (O) (EX).

  20. RETAIL COMMERCIAL SUB-SECTOR There are eight (8) investment projects. One (1) is a new project (N) and the other seven (7) are expansions (EX). Seven (&) are operating (O) and one (1) project is in the “pipeline” (PL). TOTAL INVESTMENT AND TOTAL NEW DIRECT JOBS The total investment is one billion three hundred and thirty million Guyana dollars (G$1.330 Billion) and one hundred and forty-five (145) new direct jobs. 1 FDI AND 7 LOCAL INVESTMENT PROJECTS The FDI project is RUDISA of Suriname which had a total investment of two hundred million Guyana dollars (G$ 200M) which created thirty (30) New Direct Jobs (O) (N). The seven (7) local investment projects are: DISPERSED ECONOMIC ACTIVITIES One (1) project is in Region 6 and the other seven (7) are in Region 4.

  21. BUSINESS ADVISORY SERVICES SUB-SECTOR There is one (1) project that is coordinated by the Barbados Coalition of Service Providers. There are nine (9) Barbadian companies that are involved in this project with Guyanese companies. TOTAL INVESTMENT The initial investment in these advisory services is ninety million Guyana dollars (G$90 Million).

  22. PROCESSING SERVICE PROVIDERS SUB SECTOR There are two (2) projects. Both are new projects and both are in the “pipeline”. TOTAL INVESTMENT AND TOAL NEW DIRECT JOBS The total investment is one hundred million Guyana dollars (G$100 Million) and twelve (12) new direct jobs. 1 FDI AND 1 JOINT VENTURE The FDI project is Guycan Machine Works from Canada with a total investment of twenty million Guyana dollars (G$20M) creating four (4) New Direct Jobs (N) (PL). The joint venture project is Envirotech Recycling Enterprises with partners from Guyana and Canada with a total investment of eighty million Guyana dollars (G$80M) creating eight (8) New Direct Jobs (N) (PL). DISPERSED ECONOMIC ACTIVITIES One (1) project is in Region 10 and the other is in Region 5. DIVERSIFICATION One (1) project is in recycling.

  23. ECO-TOURISM AND HOSPITALITY SECTOR NUMBER OF PROJECTS In 2005, the Guyana Office for Investment with the Ministry of Tourism, Industry and Commerce facilitated twenty-six (26) projects – twenty-one (21) hotels and five (5) resorts. Seventeen (17) are new projects (N) and nine (9) are expansion projects (EX). Twelve (12) projects are operating (O) and fourteen (14) are in the “pipeline” – the pre-operation phase (PL). All the investors are local. TOTAL INVESTMENT The total investment is four billion, nine hundred and twenty-eight million Guyana dollars (G$4.928 Billion). TOTAL DIRECT JOBS The total number of direct jobs is three hundred and fifty-nine (359). HOTELS Twenty-one (21) of the projects are small, medium and large hotels. Seven (7) of the hotels are presently operating.

  24. Seven (7) are expansion projects (EX) and two (2) are new projects (N).The other fourteen (14) hotel projects are in the “pipeline”.

  25. All are new projects RESORTS All five (5) resort projects are operating. Two (2) are expansion projects (ex) and the other three (3) are new projects (N).

  26. DISPERSED ECONOMIC ACTIVITES Sixty-two percent (62%), sixteen (16) of the hotel and resort projects, are located in Region 4. The increasing number of annual arrivals to Guyana and the upcoming Cricket World Cup has encouraged expansion of hotels and the construction of new hotels. The breakdown for the other regions is: Region 7 = 4 Region 6 = 3 Region 9 = 1 Region 3 = 1 Region 2 = 1 MARKETS The main markets for this sector are in North America, Europe and the Caribbean.

  27. MINING SECTOR NUMBER OF PROJECTS In 2005, eight (8) projects are highlighted. There are many small and medium-sized local and Foreign investment projects in gold and diamond mining, especially by Brazilian and Canadian companies, but these were facilitated directly through the Guyana Geology and Mines Commission and are not recorded here. Six (6) of the highlighted projects are operating (O). The other two (2) are in the “pipeline” – in the exploration stage (PL) Seven (7) projects are new (N) and one (1) is an expansion project (EX). TOTAL INVESTMENT The total investment is eighteen billion, two hundred million Guyana dollars (G$18.2 Billion). TOTAL JOBS The total number of direct jobs is two hundred and ninety (290) AND another eight hundred (800) employees were rehired by the Russian Aluminum Company (RUSAL) and the Omai Bauxite Company for a total of one thousand and ninety (1,090) direct jobs. All are new projects They are:

The other two (2) are in the “pipeline” – in the exploration stage (PL). 1 LOCAL INVESTMENT PROJECT This is the expansion project of BK Quarries in Regions 10 and 7. It is a total investment of G$600M which created 55 New Direct Jobs (O) (EX). DISPERSED ECONOMIC ACTIVITIES Three (3) of the projects are located in Region 10, one (1) is in Region 9, three (3) in Region 7 and one (1) in Region 6. DIVERSIFICATION One project is in oil exploration and one project is producing new bauxite products.
