Chapter 3 Recognizing Ethical Dilemmas and Actions • How often have you said something you later regretted? • Chances are you spoke before you thought about how your words might affect others. • Had you taken the time to think how your words would hurt someone else, you might have said something different or simply kept quiet.

Chapter 3 Recognizing Ethical Dilemmas and Actions • The first step of the ethical model is to recognize you are facing an ethical dilemma. • Few business decisions will require you to act immediately. • Take whatever time is required to determine whether your actions could harm someone else. • If you have any doubts that your action will violate your morals, stop to evaluate the decision, using the ethical model.

Chapter 3 Recognizing Ethical Dilemmas and Actions • The second step of the ethical model is to identify the action taken or the proposed action. • Write down every possible action you think of, even if the idea might seem outrageous at first. • Seek the advice of others who may have encountered similar dilemmas or whom you admire for their ethical behavior. • Many companies assign a mentor to new employees to encourage them to seek advice.
