  1. Mrs. Gibbs’ First Grade Class Welcome students!

  2. Welcome to First Grade! I am so excited that we get to spend this year together!! This will be my 28th year at Jim Ned teaching First Grade. I am finding each year is more fun, challenging and rewarding than the last!

  3. My Family • My husband • Glen –married 30 years • together we own Gibbs Paint & Body,LLC • My children Jessie Gibbs Young- Jim Ned class of 2007 , PA at Hendricks Trauma Center –husband is Clayton a mechanical engineer at RenTech Boilers Jordan Gibbs – Jim Ned Class of 2010, a grad student at TTU will graduate Dec. 2014 with his masters in Civil Engineering

  4. My Goals • To provide a supportive environment where learning is fun and exciting! I want each of my students to love coming to school ! • To give you the academic and social skills you need to progress to second grade. • To help you make new friends and discover new interests.

  5. Class Subjects • The subjects we cover during first grade are: • Reading and Language Arts • Math • Writing • Science • Social studies • Music and Art

  6. Classroom Community • Our classroom is a community. In our community, we have rules to help us get along with each other. • In our class we: • Respect others. • Keep your hands and feet to ourselves. • Stay quiet while someone else is talking. • Always say I CAN!

  7. Homework • I will assign about 15 minutes of homework every night. This includes independent reading. • Your homework baggie is due the following morning. • Mrs. Horne’s reading lab is open each morning at 7:30 to work on our Lexia Reading Program.

  8. Tardiness • School starts at 7:55 A.M. The tardy bell rings at 8:05. • If you aren’t in the classroom by the time the second bell rings, please check in at the school office before coming to class. • If you are tardy three times, the school will contact your parents about lunch detention the next day.

  9. Field Trips • We have lots of fun field trips planned for this year! • We will visit our local volunteer Fire Department. • Pick out a class pumpkin at the Pumpkin Patch • We will see an exhibit at the N.I.C.C.L. and tour the Grace Museum • We will sing at local nursing homes. • We will also visit the zoo and gymnastics center. • We will attend a Stephen Fite concert at the Civic Center.

  10. Some things you should know about Mrs. Gibbs: Besides teaching; She loves kids, her yorkie-Lola, Zumba and reading!
