  2. What is the Broad General Education? • Working from S1-S3 • Experiences and Outcomes • Level 2,3,4 • Totality of Curriculum-Ethos/life, Curriculum, IDL,Personal achievements

  3. How do pupils know their progress in the BGE? • Tracking reports • Reports in S3 • Parents’ Reporting Evening 17th June • Feedback written and oral • Discussions with teachers and peers • S3 Portfolio and Profile • Target setting in classes • Class Assessments – SQA exemplification

Where does the BGE lead? • Junior Phase is complete • Enter into Senior Phase-S4, 5, 6 • After Christmas, teachers moved into skills and work forNational 4s and National 5s • All skills work in BGE leads to Nationals 3,4,5 and beyond to Highers and Advanced Highers in S5/6 • National Certification • Wider Achievement and vocational Opportunties

What support is there for you in this transition? • S2>S3 Deeper Learning Decisions-revisit through interviews beginning 10th June • Check progress and ensure that decisions were appropriate • Evaluate how we support you as teachers and managers of your school. • National in a Nutshell • Education Scotland Website • SQA Website • School Communications • S3 Mock Interview Programme

What are Nationals 4 and 5? • National 4s-what do they involve? • Internal Units-all must be passed • Assessed by your teachers • There has to be ‘evidence of learning’ such as e-portfolios, presentations, diaries, portfolio etc • In some courses there is an ’Added Value Unit’ must be completed-an extra assignment • National 5s-what do they involve? • Internal Units must be passed • There has to be ‘evidence of learning’ such as e-portfolios, presentations, diaries, portfolio etc • Assessed by your teachers • Pass external course exam • Course Assessments may include assignments e.g. projects, reports, folio of work etc – See Nutshell docs

  15. What is expected of pupils in the Senior Phase? Independent learning, for example: • taking decisions • initiating and organising tasks • asking questions and finding information • demonstrating self-reliance • being clear about one’s own learning needs • effective self-management • having opportunities to reflect on and understand what has been learned.
