  4. What is CERGE-EI? • A joint academic workplace of Charles University and the Academy of Sciences of the Czech Republic • Founded in 1991, part of Charles University (1348) • Internationally-minded institution with academic staff from all over the world

  5. International Recognition The Ph.D. and M.A. degrees are accredited in the United States Number 1 economics department in Central and Eastern Europe (REPEC rankings) “Center of Excellence in Economics Education and Research” (recognition by USAID)

  6. The Ph.D. program Modern post-graduate training in economics Curriculum follows the “U.S. model” All instruction in English International faculty, most have Ph.D.s from U.S. universities (Chicago, Michigan, Minnesota, Pittsburgh, Texas A&M…)

Ph.D. Program: The Preparatory Semester Mid-June to mid-August Courses in Microeconomics, Macroeconomics, Mathematics and English Very useful to refresh old material or fill gaps in the student’s knowledge Admission to the Ph.D. program depends on the student’s performance in the preparatory semester
