  1. Christmastime in Slovakia In thistimepeople are more friendly and gentle to eachother.

  2. There is Christmas Market in almost each town in Slovakia before Christmas. On 1st of December, Christmas tree lights up on Christmas Market

  3. Four Sundays before Christmas Day beginsAdvent time, every Sunday people relight one of four candles on an advent wreath. Pople bake Christmas cakes, gingerbread andbisquits. Decorate their houses and, of, course, buy som presentsfor their relatives and friends.

  4. On Christmas Day we prepare ameal for Christmas dinner and do some last housework in themorning. In some families people are fasting until the dinner. (thelegendsaysthattheywillsee a goldenpig)

  5. The Christmas Day is on 24thDecember. The Christmas Dinneris very generous. Asfirst meal, people eat Christmas wafers with honey and nuts and cut an apple in twohalfs.If the apple is healthy, the family will be healthy, too. Theseconddishis ,,opekance“ withnuts or poppy and sugar.

  6. Then we serve a Christmas ,,kapustnica“ it is a soupfrom sauer-kraut, potatoes, dried mushrooms, plums, etc. Itis Slovak nationalmeal. A main dish is a fried carp and traditional potato salad. OnChristmas Eve we can not eat meat, only fish is allowed.

  7. After Christmas dinnerwe give presentsto each other under theChristmas Tree. Atmidnightweattend a midnightmass.
