  2. August 22, 2011 Assign Yourself: Explain the AP to my parents. Get g-mail. Write Ms. Hadaway a postcard! Do Now! List as many things as you know about the AP exams or the AP English Language exam. Objective: SWBAT discuss the AP, its value, and the AP English course requirements. Write on Pg. 5 of your Class Notebook. See poster for an example. (4 min)

Rally Robin (1 min) Partner A=Older Partner B= Younger • Partner A begins listing one fact on his or her list. • Partner B adds Partner A’s response to his or her list or places a check next to the response if she or he already had it. • Partners take turns stating responses until time is called.

  5. Dear AP Students,Greetings from a shoe near you! Bella Hadaway the Pup welcomes you to AP English Language. When the going gets rrrrrr….rough, never fear. Chewing on your favorite shoe will do wonders for nervousness. They say you never know someone until you have walked a mile in their shoes. In Bella’s case, she enjoys the walk but prefers the snack and entertainment.

  6. Postcard Assignment Write Ms. Hadaway a postcard. -Decorate the front with something that reveals who you are and what you care about. This might be a photograph, magazine cut out, song lyrics, or drawing. -On the backleft side, write: Dear Ms. Hadaway, Then, write me about yourself. -What would you like me to know about you? What do you need help with? What do you hope for on the AP/ACT? -What subjects interest you? -Hobbies, sports, hopes, dreams? Sign with your name. On the back right side, write: YOUR NAME, g-mail, phone

  14. Course Statement Scavenger Hunt (write answers in your notebook) Complete this scavenger hunt with your team. Be the first to finish! • 1. Which two texts are students responsible for purchasing? • 2. How much are Formative Assessments worth and what are 4 examples of FAs? • 3. Can you write in Springboard? • 4. List three requirements for formatting essays. • 5. When you submit your final draft electronically, what is the email address to which you submit? Bonus: What should you use to write with in this class? Bonus: List three of the classroom rules (RESPECT)!

  15. Anchor Chart • The purpose of the anchor chart is: • To recall as much as possible that has been learned during class. • To fill in gaps • To “Anchor” learning so that it stays with you. • To prepare for Exit Slips.

  16. Exit Slip • Write a short explanation of the AP, its value and the course requirements. You can use this paragraph when you discuss the AP with your parents or guardian tonight.
