1. London Overground Infrastructure Improvement Programme 1 Electrical equipment installation Background Our engineers are installing electrical equipment route wide as part of the £326m project sponsored by Transport for London (TfL), Network Rail, the Olympic Delivery Authority and the Department for Transport to upgrade the London Overground network and improve its services. What will be carried out? We will be installing isolation transformers and associated electrical equipment at track level to the west of the current access point off Court Gardens, near the bridge taking Liverpool Road over the rail lines. This equipment is essential to protect the interface between the upgraded London Overground lines and other existing railway lines. We would like to reassure you that our transformers have been designed and will be built to better the latest European electrical and noise requirements and are safe for installation in built up, residential areas. The work will involve: excavation and removal of soil using digging machinery and wagons; delivery of materials and equipment to site; construction of concrete foundations and permanent fencing; installation and connection of the electrical equipment and; access to the area via the Court Gardens. During different phases of this electrical equipment installation vehicles will be moving to and from this location via Liverpool Road and Court Gardens. We have stationed traffic marshals at the entrance to Court Gardens to control vehicles in the area but please be alert when moving around in the area. When will we work? Work is underway and will continue through to mid 2010. We will carry out this piece of work during the same times other project work is taking place in this area. All work will be carried out under section 61 of the Control of Pollution Act (1974) granted by the London Borough of Islington. Whilst work is carried out our teams will try and minimise disruption. All staff on site will be briefed and supervised to keep noise to a minimum.
