  1. Fitting Services to User Needs for Quality Information Edit Görögh, PhD Gyöngyi Karácsony University and National Library Debrecen, Hungary editg@lib.unideb.hu gyk@lib.unideb.hu

  2. The Integration Process • The integration of Kenézy Library’s medical collection into the University and National Library, University of Debrecen started in 2001. • The process involves the integration of administration and electronic services: Cataloguing Library OPACs Circulation Web-based databases and e-journal browser • The unified web interface for the integrated library services is still under construction.

  3. Usage Statistics for Kenézy Library website (www.clib.dote.hu) • Visits to the website present a gradual growth • Most popular e-services of our website: E-journals Impact Factors Web of Science • Rarely used services: WebPAC Database collection Resource guides (link collection)

  4. Usage Statistics for www.clib.dote.hu

  5. Questions • What degree of integration can keep present consumers? • How can we attract new consumers? • What did the integration process change in library patrons’ usage? • What are the advantages and disadvanatages of the integration? • How can we improve our services?

  6. Personal Interviews • University staff’s starting page is their specialty’s homepage (UroWeb, etc.) • Faculty members and researchers often reach databases and browsers through other internet pages than the library’s homepage. • News about databases and journals are not effectively distributed. • Library’s homepage is not visited merely to search for new services and products.

  7. Conclusion • The integration process had no negative impact on the usage of the original website of Kenézy Medical Library. • Due to the integration of IP ranges, a larger consumer group has access to subscribed databases and journals. • An effective method of providing news about library services should be developed. • Methods of statistical measurement should be improved.

  8. Future Research • A variety of methodology for capturing electronic services usage should be utilized to receive comprehensive results (web survey, interviews, web statistics). • The rate of on-campus and remote consumer access should be considered. • Results of library usage pattern analysis should be incorporated in the development of the integrated library website.
