  3. Conference at Munich 1938 Neville Chamberlain – GB Agrees to concede to Hitler’s demands in exchange for promise to halt aggression…  I mean what’s he going to do? It is France and GB on his left and the USSR on his right.

  4. The Nazi-Soviet Non-Aggressions Treaty 1939 Hitler organizes a NA treaty with Stalin Promising not to go to war with each other (plus so other goodies) This frees up his Eastern front GB (and especially France) freak out Known as the “Green Light to War” – signed in August 1939

  5. September 1, 1939 Hitler stages a Polish invasion and then unleashes the Wehrmacht The Danzig Corridor – “The worst monstrosity of the Versailles Treaty” “Who wants to get bogged down in a world war over Danzig”

  6. Poland is Crushed • Germany invades from the west, the USSR from the east • Nazi occupation will have devastating results • Soviet occupation leads to atrocities as well • Katyn Forest • The Sitzkrieg
